C-O-R...are you going to the mall later, that’s what I was going to say
Ok, silly quote from Billy Madison.
After a full day in the city at the market, we continue on with the local culture. First breakfast at Bonafide, basically the only cafe open on a Monday. These seem like the Starbucks of the south! We then hopped into a taxi and off to the Malba! This is the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires. It was recommended to me many times so I knew this was a place we needed to get to. Pretty dreary day so staying inside was a-ok.
Inside were awesome paintings, sculptures and moving pictures by artists that i’ve never heard of but still cool. Some pieces were even interactive which I liked, like some kind of child that needs to touch everything.
We did see the self portrait of Frida which i thought was pretty neat but maybe just cool because I actually knew one of the artists.
After about an hour of walking around admiring the pieces, trying to understand everything said about them in spanish, we were done at the museum. it was A LOT smaller than any museum in NYC.
Ian and a giant huevo.
It started to really rain and we had no umbrella! I was going to melt! Luckily across the street from the Malba were two kioskos. First one we didn’t actually see any so we went to the other one. The other kiosk said they didn’t have and to check the place we had just come from. We go BACK to the first place and actually ask, and guess what. they had an umbrella, oy. We continue our day.
We knew the Jardin Japones was close by and I definitely wanted to go. Despite the rain and one umbrella, we face the forces of nature head on.
I am so glad we went! it was like we had the place to ourselves. We walked over these cool bridges over fish ponds, not sure what kind of fish, maybe koi?
Overall this place was so beautiful and tranquil. Filled with tons of greenery, pops of color and small waterfalls in multiple parts of the park.
After the garden we needed to eat and now it really started to rain. I thought I heard a woman at the Malba say that there was a mall around the corner so we head there. Facing lots of rain and tons of wind, mother nature decided to take my freshly purchased umbrella as her own, that b**ch! Less than an hour after we purchased one, we were again umbrellaless and soaked. We found the mall!
A MALL!! We mainly had one goal in mind but it didn’t hurt to browse a bit! At first we only saw some fancy restaurants but then found the main eatery! It was like home but not at all.
Ian got a chicken sandwich and I got a quesadilla. Upon ordering my quesadilla, i said it the way we normally say it with the double L as a “yuh” sound and the guy behind the counter had zero idea what I was saying! I was like am I crazy? Then I realized, yes, yes I am. I then said OH, “the quesadi’sh’a!” Their double L’s here are not pronounced how we learned them in school!
That night, we were having Italian at La Pecora Nera, a nice break from the steak.
We started with the corn soufflé which basically was dessert, YUM! Then we got two types of ravioli to share. One was a deer meat ravioli and the other was a pumpkin kind (pictured.) OMG were these amazing!! Ian liked the deer more and I liked the pumpkin more, so delish! We also had to get a bottle of Malbec, had to.
Once we were done, the chef came out and said a quick hello to some of his diners. He almost skipped our table but he saw me staring at him, so he came over. After he learned we were from NYC, he loved us. He had spent three years working in the kitchen at the MOMA in NYC! He gave us suggestions on where to go in Argentina and then ended the convo with “be sure to give a good review on yelp” haha, OK. Don’t worry, we did!
Our teeth were so red, we couldn’t smile.
After dinner, Ian knew about a cool lounge nearby called Gran Bar Danzon that was highly suggested so we went.
This place was COOL! The bartender was in a lab coat and made our fancy drinks.
Yet another successful and packed day in Buenos Aires!
