Multnomah Falls
At a height of 189m, the Multnomah Falls is the tallest waterfall in the US state of Oregon. The falls consists of a two tiers with a gentle slope (3m) between the two drops. The upper falls has a height of 165m while the lower falls is 21m.
The two drops are a result of basalt bases. Basalt is relatively easier to erode. The falls were created by the massive Missoula Floods (15000 years ago).
Mainly fed by underwater springs, the falls is also supplemented by melting snow from the Larch Mountain.
The image accompanied with this article is that of the falls while frozen (in December 2013) which is known to occur from time to time under extreme circumstances.
The falls gets its name from the Multnomah tribe.
