Hi, if a customer wanted a large quantity of the same flower, like 200 or more pots could florists do that?
If you mean a cut flower? Then depending on the flower being in season and the amount of time they have to source the flowers, yes. It might cost a lot if they have to source outside of normal channels or it’s needed especially quickly or when the flower isn’t in season in their area. I once purchased a very small amount of lily-of-the-valley for wedding when it wasn’t in season in the US and had to pay like $80 for the one small bunch to be imported from Holland. If you mean a large quantity of potted plants, then a nursery would be a better place for your character to get them. The florist could possibly still do it, but a greenhouse or nursery is going to have a better supply chain for large quantities of potted plants.~*Mod Den*~
Coming from a florist who works for a big company, I´m talking flower supermarket big - sure. I’ve never had it happen, but it might just be the one scenario where someone would be able to barter with us for a discount. Cause we can’t give that unless someone intends to buy a whole cc container full of flowers or more. The only catch here is that it would have to be a) something we have regularly in stock and b) something in season. Since my employer for perhaps obvious reasons doesn’t go to wholesaler but immediately buys up whole fields and has their own contracts with the gardeners.
This actually might be a catch too, though I don’t consider it one, but they can’t just can’t months in advance to place their order. Their best bet is to come a week in advance of when they will need the plants so we can order them on time for the right date. For good measure, we’ll say they want the plants on a Saturday but come on Monday. Means we’ll order them Monday for Friday cause that’s the closest delivery day to Saturday and ensures the best quality for the buyer.
Customers are not able to buy up front with us though, which is mostly for their own safety so just in case something happens (perhaps the order is not available, or perhaps the truck rolls over who knows, not us) nobody owes anyone money. The only exceptions are orders of bouquets that have already been picked out and are needed the next day. We might not necessarily make the right after the purchase but it sure makes it easier on both ends if all the customer has to do the next day is walk in and pick it up.
