Path of Liberty, That Which Unites US
Freedom Plaza, New York City, USA, 2025.
“Path of Liberty: That Which Unites US” is a large-scale, immersive outdoor art installation that repurposes one of Manhattan's largest unbuilt sites.
In partnership with artist and filmmaker Daniella Vale, I had the privilege at C&G Partners to be the partner in charge of this project, commissioned by the Soloviev Foundation to celebrate the upcoming 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026.
Spanning more than six acres, the exhibition invites visitors on a journey through the complex and evolving ideals of liberty, freedom, and democracy in the United States.
Daniella Vale traveled across the country to capture firsthand portraits of more than 50 people from all walks of life. Their testimonials are presented as photographs and short films on towering 15-foot-tall scaffolding structures—a metaphor for the ongoing effort to build American democracy.
At the heart of the site, a central plaza, framed by eight large-scale video projections, creates the core of the exhibition. The multiple voices and landscapes featured throughout the installation are brought together into a powerful multi-screen film experience.
Designed to be experienced at night, the installation is both monumental and immersive, set within a landscape of meandering footpaths and wild greenery that contrasts with the surrounding Manhattan skyline. The setting engages the senses and draws the visitor into deeper encounters with the individuals and their stories. By expanding the idea of photography at this scale, the installation encourages visitors not only to look and listen, but also to pause, reflect, ask questions, and engage in conversation —a reminder that democracy is not given—it is made, together.
Forever grateful to the Soloviev Foundation for making this project possible, to Daniella Vale for her trust, and to the many teams and people who were part of this journey.
