The Creature Awaits #52:
Each week I plan to feature an amazing creature, admiring God's fantastic artistry. Hopefully it’ll brighten someone’s day to see something new and interesting if they haven’t seen it before. : )

The Atlas Moth
Scientific Name: Attacus atlas
Region: Forests and Shrublands throughout Eastern and Southern Asia
Size: Up to ~9.4"(24cm), making it one of the largest known moths
Interesting Note: The name "Atlas moth" refers to both the Greek mythological Titan for its size and the map-like markings on its wings. The Cantonese name for this moth is referred to as the "Snake-Head Moth" for the snake head-shaped extension on the outer tip of the forewing. (Now that it's been pointed out.. I can definitely see it! : ) )
