Ashoka (304 BC - 232 BC), also referred to as Ashoka the Great, was the last major emperor in the Mauryan dynasty of India. He ruled almost the entire Indian subcontinent from c. 268 to 232 BCE. Ashoka became a model of kingship in the Buddhist tradition. He was the third ruler of the Indian Mauryan Empire & he built one of the world's largest empires at its time.
