Mousai Series by E.J. Mellow
Warning: I can be quite blunt with my short reviews but that is just my opinion and you are entitled to your own. When I write these, please know that I have read more than a thousand books already and have established my preferences. These reviews are not, in any way, meant to attack authors cause I respect and honor what they do. I just wanted to share my thoughts entirely based on the novels that I choose to read and that is all.
I have finished reading the first 2 books in the trilogy and it was fun. Not exceptional, just fun. As a reader who has always preferred reading adventure, these were mild for me. There were thrilling moments but not enough to excite.
The female characters, well in this case the younger Mousais, are strong characters but it felt like there could have been more to their character development than what was written. I prefer Niya's becoming than that of Larkyra's because the events prior and leading towards her realization have more depth. Well, I can't say a thing about Arabessa because we have yet to know her story. Nevertheless, it felt like there could have been more room to explore.
The banters of the pairings are witty and I do love a good humor although there was much more substance to the relationship of Niya-Alos than that of Larkyra-Darius because they shared some history together and it was rather unfinished. So yes, I definitely enjoyed the second book more than I did with the first. Simply put, Darius was a sweetheart but Alos was a hot, complicated mess. And who doesn't want a good conflict?
Would I read the third book? Yes.
My review on this series may not be that high but I do anticipate its conclusion especially since the build-up of Arabessa and Zimri's relationship was already established in the first 2 books. I just hope it doesn't disappoint.
Overall, my rating for the first 2 books would be 4/5 stars.
