Rep. Greg Pence (R-Ind.), the brother of former Vice President Mike Pence, announced he would not seek a fourth term in office.

That follows announcements from Reps. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO), Larry Bucshon (R-IN) and Doug Lamborn (R-CO). All three are fuckable Republicans and have been in Congress more than a decade.

The Hoosier Health Care Tour

Indiana Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. and  State Representative Tim Brown, M.D. are hitting the road together as part of the  “Hoosier Healthcare Tour,” a statewide tour to discuss the status of health and healthcare in Indiana.

Over the course of two weeks, Drs. Bucshon and Brown will travel to nine different cities and host eleven events focused on aspects of Hoosier healthcare. 

They tell Indy politics the event will focus on child healthcare, physician retention, minority healthcare, Medicare/Medicaid, medical device, rural healthcare, veterans healthcare, and prevention/wellness, the doctors hope to get a comprehensive overview of the state of healthcare in Indiana.

Coats Votes to Re-open Government, Avoid default

U.S Senator Dan Coats tonight joined 80 of his colleagues to approve the Senate deal that would re-open the government and help the United States avoid default.

The measure passed 81-18.  It would fund the federal government through January 15, 2013 and raise the debt ceiling through February 7, 2013:  The government had been partially shutdown since October 1 and was on the verge on hitting its debt limit.

Coats' office released the following statement.

 “I returned to public service to make the difficult choices necessary to tackle our debt and restore our country’s fiscal footing. To my great disappointment, once again Congress is kicking the can down the road and ignoring what needs to be done. “While I deplore supporting yet another short-term Band-Aid, the only thing worse would be a continued government shutdown, the United States defaulting on its debt obligations and the elimination of the spending reductions enacted by Congress in 2011. “I have voted for and will continue to support efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare with common-sense health care reforms. It is evident to me that the present strategy has failed to sway the president or Senate Democrats. As we’ve seen from Obamacare’s disastrous rollout, this law’s failures are more than mere glitches, and the fight to repeal it must continue. 

 “I am disappointed with this outcome, but my commitment to reducing our debt, growing the economy and getting Americans back to work will not waver. I will be an integral part of the ongoing effort to address our nation’s serious financial challenges.”

The bill now goes to the House of Representatives for immediate consideration.  Third District Congressman Marlin Stutzman, 6th District Congressman Luke Messer and 8th District Congressman Larry Bucshon have all indicated they will vote "no", even though they do not want the government to go into default.
