Three short months ago I took a chance on a couple of Pringles and took a trip to Guatemala...  the adventure that unfolded in this far-off land was better than I could have imagined.  

I never pictured myself sleeping above a lush jungle floor in a hammock... I quickly found out what will power can do having to continually keep my girly screams at bay when encountering the thousands of multi-legged creepy crawlies along the way.  Early in the trip we were hiking in the dark and I look down with my headlamp and there was a blanket of spiders... EVERYWHERE!  With a shrill of a scream I ran 5 steps, look down and I was still surrounded!! They were crawling over the tops of my shoes!!! ***shiver***  Luckily we had our resident bug guy Nate and he said something to the tune of  “ Guys they're not spiders and they're not poisonous”!  Apparently these things have similar body types to Daddy Long Legs but only have one body segment and not two... blah blah blah DON’T CARE! Lets just say I barely escaped with all of my hair.

Climbing Volcán Acatenango was one of the hardest hikes I have done to date.  Eight hours of steep climbing to see molten lava come out of the adjacent volcano...  worth every breathless step even if my camera battery died at the very top...  It was a short nights rest in that caldera, but I’d do it again in a heart beat. I mean come on!??!! Sleeping in a volcano!!? Pure magic.

Semuc Champey was another huge highlight.  Perfect weather with access to waterfalls every 5 feet was insane.  it was a relaxing day jumping from pool to pool and my only worry was keeping track of my old lady hat...  I wish I could spend more days like that.
