It was true, he had been working harder than before. With his father falling ill, he not only had to complete his father's chores, but had to take care of him as well. With both fear of the Butler's health and heavy stress, he seemed paler and more exhausted than ever. It made him appreciate downtime even more.
That wasn't to say he was never a weary person; it was only now those sunken features became more prominent. As much as he wished to accept offers given by others, he couldn't just give the job to anybody. Only Flora seemed competent enough, but even then she was more worried about Jakob rather than his son.
Laslow’s suggestion made his dreary posture sink even further into his Staff.
