Last 48 hours (1/3)- Something salty, por favor.
Mexico has gotten busier and busier, which makes keeping up this blog harder and harder. (What? What do you mean I've had time to watch an entire season of Modern Family? How dare you say I could be updating this instead of watching TV in my free time? Huh? Outrageous!!)
So my next few posts will be a chronicle of my last 48 hours. A pretty good sample of life here on weekends. Times are approximate.
First, let's talk about the lack of salt in our diet.
Thursday @ 6 PM - Lulu and I eat fruit for dinner because the dinners the cafeteria ladies made us (two small, sad hotdogs with some salsa) have gotten cold and soggy, as usual.
@ 8 PM - I come back from the gym, and I open the fridge for the umpteenth time hoping something besides the mangos and bananas and peaches that we've eaten for the past 3 days will appear. Nope, no magical additions to the fridge.
@ 9 PM - Lulu and I complain about our salty food craving. Meanwhile, we steal a little bit a lot of Frosted Flakes from our high-school Mexican suitemate (Chances of her reading an English blog are low, right?)
@ 9:15 PM - We discuss the possibility of splitting a bag of junk food from the vending machine. Is that stooping too low?
@ 9:20 PM - Yes. It is. Damn it, Lulu.
@ 10 PM - Call from Anthar. He's coming to get us and we're going to a bar! YES. THERE MUST BE SALT THERE.
@ 11 PM - We go to Opus, a bar in Fortin. Music genre: "La musica de negra" aka "Black Music" It's the Mexican way of describing it, not mine.
Now, besides the unsuccessful macho face that Josue is trying to make, notice the bowl of FREE sabritas on the table! SALTY! YUMMY!
@11:30 PM - We are on our 5th bowl of Salty Sabritas. Josue thinks it's necessary to tell the waiter we don't have potatoes in the United States and that's why we keep wanting more and more sabritas. We would be offended but we actually don't care... More importantly, we have comida salada! Finally!
@12:15 PM - We go to the Acoustik in Cordoba, a bar with an acoustic band on stage. Change of pace. The band sang popular romantic Mexican songs. Couples were slow dancing. How cute.
Everyone stares at us as we walk in. You would think we're the first Asians they've ever seen in their lives. Oh wait...
@12:45 PM - Drummer won't stop staring at us. Probably because we're Asian. Getting kinda creeped out.
@1:00 PM - Go for some tacos con pastor as drunk food. More yums.
@1:30 PM - Sufficiently satisfied with the drinks and the food, we return to our Residencia before our curfew of 2AM. Guard is waiting up for us. Typical picture below.
