❛ Choose because of what you think, not what others might. ❜
SENTENCE PROMPTS | NOT ACCEPTING.
you can’t save everybody seemed to be something anakin was told often lately. being in charge of a battalion came with hardships, but standing by and watching his men die never failed to deal a hard blow. no matter how few. sure, it was a sacrifice for the greater good. but he would try to prevent it if he could. would crush the dragon inside that told him everyone dies.
choose because of what you think, not what others might.
the look on anakin’s face was incredulous at the statement. he spoke slowly, firm yet unconvincing. anger boiled inside as he repeated orders, debating with himself more than anything. “i-i was told to stay here. war means sacrifices, it’s what they’re programmed to do.” he didn’t seem to believe his own words. he knew more than any jedi what it was like living to serve and follow orders. they were always more than just soldiers to him. ‘choose because of what you think -’ anakin understood what she meant on a surface level; he couldn’t seem to get himself to ponder it any further. deep deep down there was always a lack of free will. the conviction inside that told him to think freely was always locked away, somewhere behind the memories of his past and his tendency to listen. to obey. never to lead. often arrogance is a mask that hides weakness. in anakin’s case it was a pretense that gave the illusion that maybe - just maybe - he had control for a moment. agency had always eluded him.
“i can’t let them die. i can’t !”
a gloved hand gripped the datapad. going against direct orders wasn’t uncommon for anakin to say the least. some would assume he grew out of a habit so juvenile. choosing what he felt was more natural than choosing what he thought. feelings were his morality; his conscience. embracing this, he headed for his interceptor. he was the chosen one, right? saving lives should be the least he could do. should be.
