January 16, we remember NASA astronaut Eugene Cernan Five years ago, Naval aviator, NASA astronaut and the last Man to walk on the Moon, Eugene “Gene” Cernan passed away, aged 82. Cernan flew on Gemini IX, making the 2nd American spacewalk, on Apollo 10, rehearsing for the Moonlanding and on Apollo 17, the final manned mission to the Moon. In 1976, Cernan retired as a Navy Captain and left NASA in order to start a private business. He will be remembered as an outstanding officer, a genuinely warm, friendly and enthusiastic man. Out of 8 official individual NASA portraits, we have chosen this 1974 portrait as it shows astronaut Cernan wearing his Gold Apollo 11 tribute Speedmaster #18 chronograph as shown by the typical 1116/575 bracelet with Omega logo in relief on the clasp.
