We welcomed in the new year this morning with our first radio segment of 2020 on The Morning AMp powered by Vocalo 91.1FM sharing two new tracks as well as events happening around the city.  

This week’s featured music comes from... 

BOSSACUCANOVA

They are a trio from Brazil known for composing electronic bossa nova. In this case, their new album, titled Bossa Got The Blues will drop at the end of the month. This particular recording features Roberto Menescal who has “solidified himself as a pioneer of bossa nova, helping bridge the gap between the genre and the technological innovations of the beats and samples.” The album includes 10 tracks and on the tech side notes include that it “was recorded throughout 2018 in different studios in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), and was composed by Menescal, his son Marcio, Alex and Marcelinho; with “Blues Bossa” being composed by Roberto Menescal and JC Costa Netto.  Find it here: http://www.bossacucanova.com/

SOLO MODERNA

Producer, multi-instrumentalist and analog tweaker Solo Moderna just released Republica Moderna via Galletas Calientes Records. Now, to be clear, this artist is not Latino, he’s actually from Holland but has been working with Latin and world genres that delve into folk and cumbia and dembow and ska and Afrohouse and all kinds of body-shaking sounds. He calls it a  “Carnival of clever madness!” On the track we shared, “La Bandolera,” you’ll hear from Puerto Rican group Empresarios. It’s a great one!

“It’s as if Kraftwerk and Señor Coconut went on a trip to Africa, the Balkans, the Caribbean and South America, and "Republica Moderna" emerged from these adventures. From the Balkan-Dembow of “Escúchame Como Soy” and the cumbia of the Washington-based Empresarios in “La Bandolera”, to the sun-kissed, afrohouse vibe of “Sonido SID Africano” and the west African “Republica de chonta”, Solo Moderna gleefully shifts from the acoustic to the synthesized to create a surprisingly coherent work.”
