CW: Attempted murder, insanity
August went back to Azari's house. It was too late. He knew he wouldn't have much time once Latira had told him the council had been notified. Council members were already on the premises.
"August?" A particularly youthful looking vampire in a red council cloak approached August.
August groaned in frustration. "What do you want, Arthur."
"Me? What do you want? Someone tipped us off that you want to kill this guy? Since when did you care to get involved in council business?"
"I don't. This is personal."
"So you do want to kill him?" Arthur's jaw dropped. "Why? People have attacked you before and you never bothered to get involved."
"Don't worry about it." August tried to push past, but Arthur blocked him.
"I can't let you through if you really do want to kill him. This is a council crime. I heard there was someone else involved. Was it someone you care about? Did you make a friend??"
"I took on a charge." August pushed Arthur back. "They're not a friend."
"A charge?" Arthur asked, unfazed by August's push. "As in you turned someone into a vampire? When? Why aren't they registered? Nevermind, it's you, of course they aren't registered— But if they're just a charge, then why decide to kill this guy because of them?"
"Arthur, get out of my way."
"You can't kill him. He has to go on trial."
"Move or I will force you." August threatened, taking ahold of Arthur by the front of his cloak.
"August, you don't want to do this. The council already sees you as a liability— there's no substantial reason for you to go against them in this—"
"He tried to kill Morgan!" August snapped, yelling at top volume as he lifted Arthur off the ground. "He staked them in the chest! I'm not going to let it go! It's not council business, it's my business!"
At August's outburst, other council members had started to take note of him. One began to approach. Seeing this, August's threw Arthur at the other vampire with all his strength. The two vampires slammed into eachother, both collapsing to the ground. Arthur rolled onto his back with a groan, starting to prop himself up on his elbow, but the other council member was out cold.
Wasting no time, August entered the house at a full on sprint. As he pushed past council members, one of them shouted a warning to the others. August was met at the door to the room with silver walls by two vampires who were comparable to himself in terms of strength.
"Get out of my way." August snarled, clenching his fist.
"No can do, August. Besides, there's no way the vampire we found in here attacked anyone intentionally."
"What the hell do you mean?? He almost killed me and my charge!"
"He's completely mad. There's hardly a scrap of sanity left in him."
"I know! That's probably why he thought it would be a good idea to try and kill two people!"
"No no no, he's a mess— hasn't stopped crying since we got here. There's no way he schemed to get you and whoever was with you down here to kill you."
August furrowed his eyebrows. "He's crying?"
The vampires nodded.
"Let me see."
"We can't let you through."
"Then I won't come through, just step aside and let me see who you have!"
The council members glanced at eachother and then stepped aside. They looked ready to grab August if he tried to run past.
In the middle of the floor say Azari, knees pulled up to his chest, arms covering his head as he sobbed. A council member was trying to convince him to get up.
"No! No— go away! Shut me in and lock the door! Please! Please, I'm begging you! You don't know! You don't know what I've done!" Azari screamed, pulling away every time the council member tried to touch him.
"Then tell me. What did you do?" The council member knelt next to Azari.
"I've... I've killed so many people... Please, you have to leave!"
"You bastard!" August yelled, lunging. The two council members at the door caught him, but August just kept yelling. "Don't act like you're sorry now! You fucking liar! I'll kill you!"
Azari looked back at August, tear filled eyes wide. Something about those eyes was different... the malicious glint was completely gone. The vampire was undoubtedly Azari, but... something was off...
