suicide is a horrible thing but i dont think the response to attempts should be restraining people and locking them in a hospital room for anywhere from 3 days to the rest of their life, depending on whether they can stop being suicidal or not.
and i dont think an isolated unit with plastic furniture feels comfortable to most people. i don't think being confined into a chaotic space with no exit is conductive to healing. i don't think being cut off from almost all outside communication makes people feel safer.
i dont think it feels supportive to be surrounded by strangers with the legal right to grab you, pin you down, force sedatives onto you, extend your confinement, further isolate you in solitary, or take away "privileges" like: food you can/will eat, socializing, hobby materials, or even your own fucking clothes and underwear.
like, does any of this sound like caring medical treatment to you? do you really think a person who already wants to die is more likely to wanna live under those circumstances? why do you think it's so common for people to lie their way out of psych wards and then stop asking for help, even if they came in begging and pleading?
the institutional solution to suicide attempts is just gaslighting, violence, neglect, and torture. "its for your own good," no it isnt. that environment isnt good for anyone. its so no one has to actually sit down and talk to suicidal people, like we are real people. we are just overburdened by powerlessness.
suicide is our brain's last resort when we are suffering and see no end. more suffering or hardship is exactly the fucking opposite of what is needed. psych wards cannot avoid this or soften it with 5-10min conversations with psych ward staff or generic group therapies.
soteria houses on the other hand, are much closer to a healing environment. they are peer ran, home-like, autonomy-based environments that people with schizophrenia can go to for residential mental health care. so:
instead of psych professionals providing psychoeducation on "the right/healthy way" to think: peers and patients help each other by sharing unique coping skills, making art, learning new hobby or job skills, active listening, and having group conversations about mental health. they also dont usually use psychiatric medication (like antipsychotics), and patients still recover.
now which sounds more caring to you:
1) a suicidal person is admitted to a ward against their will, goes into fight or flight on arrival, is restrained, isolated, sedated, and monitored 24/7 by staff (even in the shower) for the rest of the day: or,
2) a suicidal person accepts a referral to a soteria house, goes into fight or flight on arrival, is calmed down by peers, invited to a social activity on site, and hangs out with a new friend for the rest of the day.
I have been institutionalized one time and I never will be again. It was voluntary. I slept the entire time. They didn't adjust my medication or literally do anything except remind me of meal times.
I am doing better now— not because of that experience, but in spite of it— but if I ever find myself in that state of mind again, which is not unlikely considering my mental heath history, I will be taking a trip with a couple of close friends to a cabin for a weekend or longer.

My parents hid the fact that one of (two of, I suppose, since she has a partner) my grandmas is a lesbian. I was the first kid to know and I found out when they dragged me angrily out of the closet as a teen before beating me over the head with a Bible and watching me slowly claw my way back in there.

Now, English isn’t my first language, so maybe I’m missing something. I understand “pilled,” it comes from The Matrix, the idea of being “red-pilled” or “blue-pilled.”
But the “J”?
What exactly is that supposed to stand for?
Because if it stands for “Jews,” then the phrase doesn’t mean “skepticism of Israeli influence.” It means something much older, and much uglier.
And that raises a bigger question, one that feels increasingly hard to ignore:
Why are explicitly antisemitic ideas so often reframed as political critique?
To be clear, criticism of Israel is not antisemitic. It shouldn’t be off-limits, and it isn’t. I have my own criticisms—some of them pretty strong.
But something has shifted in the way these conversations happen.
We’re no longer just seeing criticism of policies or leaders. We’re seeing Holocaust memorials vandalized. Synagogues attacked. Language that targets Jews as a group dressed up as commentary on a state.
And when people point this out, the response is often immediate:
“I’m not antisemitic. I’m just anti-Zionist.”
Here’s where it gets complicated and where, I think, a lot of people stop thinking too deeply.
Because sometimes, that distinction is real.
And sometimes, it isn’t.
Consider this:
A man attempted to burn down a synagogue filled with children in Michigan.
The response in some corners of the internet?
“Well, Israel did this, so…”
Michigan is not in the Middle East. The people in that synagogue were not policymakers. They weren’t soldiers. They were children.
So what exactly is being protested in that moment?
Or take the language itself.
When people say “Zionists” but mean “Jews”—sometimes explicitly, sometimes implicitly, that’s not a geopolitical critique. That’s a substitution.
And in some cases, we don’t even have to guess. Leaked group chats and online spaces have made that ambiguity disappear, with people openly admitting they use “Zionist” as a stand-in because it sounds more acceptable.
This is where the conversation gets uncomfortable, especially in liberal spaces that pride themselves on being anti-racist and socially aware.
Because antisemitism doesn’t always look like what people expect.
It doesn’t always announce itself clearly. It doesn’t always come from the “other side.” And it doesn’t disappear just because it’s framed in the language of activism.
It’s possible, necessary, even, to hold two ideas at once:
You can criticize Israel.
And you can recognize when that criticism crosses a line into something else.
The problem isn’t criticism.
The problem is when entire groups of people are treated as symbols, blamed collectively, or targeted in ways that have nothing to do with policy and everything to do with identity.
There’s a kind of surface-level understanding of antisemitism that says: “It’s bad, and we oppose it.”
But deeper than that is a harder question:
Do we recognize it when it shows up in forms we’re less comfortable confronting—especially when it overlaps with causes we otherwise support?
Because if someone repeats harmful stereotypes, targets Jewish spaces, or justifies violence against Jews but insists it’s really about Israel, does the label they choose matter more than the impact?
Something isn’t adding up.
And until we’re willing to sit with that discomfort—to question our assumptions, our language, and the spaces we participate in—it’s not going to change.

Another design is using 2 20x25x1 filters, taping them to the sides of the box fan and then to each other so they sort of make a triangle, then cutting cardboard to make a top and bottom to the triangle.
This was discovered as a more effective design during the 2020 US west coast fires.
I’ve personally used both the flat single-filter version AND the triangular two-filter version, and based on subjective personal experience I would argue that the benefits from the second filter, both in terms of airflow and filtration, are absolutely worth it. If you need a makeshift air filter and you have two filters to work with, build the triangle (if not the box, i have no idea how good that one works but based on the info here i presume it’s a fair bit better.)

fluff and healthy fic is proship. fic that promotes christianity is proship. fic that promotes satanism is proship. fic that’s about heterosexual romance is proship. fic that’s about wholesome queer love is proship. fic about fidelity is proship. fic about found family is proship.
every single thing is proship because proship is NOT about what the fic is about. therefore ALL of these CAN also be anti ship if you choose to harass other people. so it’s about what you DO to real people. NOT what fictional things you write about in your fics.
the ONLY definition of proship is “anti censorship and anti harassment.”
that’s it. that’s all. proship literally just means “write whatever you want, however you want. censorship is bad. also don’t harass real people, especially over fiction.” at no point does it mention what tropes count as proship because PROSHIP IS AN ANTI CENSORSHIP AND ANTI HARASSMENT STANCE. it’s not about what someone writes.
if you don’t harass other people and if you understand that censorship is bad, then by definition you’re proship.
what you write about has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not it’s proship.
that said, I think the word you’re looking for is “darkship” which IS about dark and taboo ships. but to my standards, infidelity is NOT darkship — unless it involves something more taboo and messed up. a ship between a rapist and their victim is darkship. an incestuous and physically abusive ship is dark ship. a ship where one of the characters locks the other one up in their basement and tortures them is dark ship. but infidelity alone, when it comes to fiction where real-life moral compass cannot be applied to it, is just drama. think of it like a rating system. while everything I’ve mentioned — a rapist x victim ship, an incestuous and physically abusive ship, a straight up sadistic ship — is rated mature, I personally won’t rate a fic that involves infidelity as mature (unless there’re things like violence, blood and gore involved), that’s just teen and up audiences.
