Ah... Roman realizes he probably shouldn't have said that— didn't need to have said that. Too late to take it back, now, though.

"Mm... yeah." Roman pulls away a little and looks out the window. "Ah, when I was growing up, they always used to ask me and Archer at our yearly checkups and stuff." Should he say more..? Explain further? He doesn't really want to, though, so he stops.

And yeah... Roman's home life was bad— worse than he's talked about— and he doesn't really want to think about it. Once he does, he's going to have to face the fact that he's changed enough from that time that he's starting to really see how bad it was. He likes lying to himself that everything wasn't so bad.

@bryce-stryerson I can't wait to read both of those! But also I can, take your time and take care of yourself first, always! I am very curious and it'll make my day when I get to read them. Both boss and high school times are so fascinating :D

@itsleelove I feel like I'm getting the same journey he is, then. Like, oh it wasn't good but it wasn't terrible right? And then I find out, oh no, it was pretty terrible. And dealing with that self-discovery in this situation is... the word that's coming to mind is "zesty."

Hero walked into the apartment, and the first thing they saw was Villain lying face down on the floor.

“Villain?!” They asked, immediately crouching beside him. Villain’s eyes fluttered blearily and released a soft moan. A sheen of sweat covered his forehead, and Hero could feel the heat radiating off him. “What-what happened? Are you hurt? Sick?” They pressed the back of their palm to his forehead—hot.

“Mmm yeah,” Villain mumbled. Hard to understand with his cheek mashed against the floor. “Sick. Thought you’d…help.”

“Of course I’ll help,” Hero answered indignantly, moving their hand to rub circles on his back. “But why are you on the floor and not, like, the couch?”

“Fell. ‘Sss not bad,” he slurred back, eyelids drifting closed. “Soft rug. Good job.”

Shaking their head, Hero gently rolled Villain over and scooped him into their arms, wincing at how hot he was.

Villain immediately leaned into them. “Oh. This is-this is nice! …Kinda dizzy, but…beats…walking.”

It was a short trip to Hero’s bedroom, and they didn’t hesitate to put Villain on their bed. Villain sighed, slumping gratefully into the soft mattress and pillow. “So…nice,” they murmured.

“Rest now,” Hero whispered. They felt Villain’s forehead again, smoothing back some hair. “You’re in good hands.”

"He's gone."

Roman flinched as the door to his room slammed open. He hadn't gotten much sleep, but he had been trying. A quick glance at the clock told him his mother had only just gotten up. Six in the morning... He sat up. "Who?"

"You stupid obstinate child!"

Roman ducked as his mother threw something that hit the wall with a hard thump.

"Where did he go? When did he leave?"

"Mom, please, I don't know what you're talking about—" Roman pleaded, keeping his voice small in vain hope that she too might stop shouting.

"Don't act like you don't know exactly what's going on you fucking liar!" She shouted, voice shrill. "Where did your brother go??"

Roman stepped back expression falling in shock. "Archer's... gone..?" He didn't have to fake the tears that began to well up a moment later. Archer was gone. And nothing was going to change that...

At this, his mother's expression crumbled as well. Her fists unclenched and she fell to her knees in exaggerated sobs.

Roman sniffled.

"Please..." she blubbered, hiding her face in her hands. Roman wondered vaguely how fake her expression looked behind it... or if even an ounce of the devastation she was showing was real... "Please... don't lie to me anymore... I know you know where he went— he tells you everything..."

Well that was about as far from the truth as a person could get...

"Please... I just need to know where my son is— if he's okay— if he's safe—!"

Like Archer was the only son she ever had...

"Mom..." Roman crossed the room with some hesitation to kneel down next to her and place a hand on her back. "Mom, I really don't know where he went. He's... he's really gone..?"

His mother didn't answer beyond another pathetic-sounding sob.

Did she believe him yet..? That he really didn't know where Archer went..? Had he convinced her that he didn't know he had left..? He could only hope as much...

Question:

My grandmother has expressed interest in attending a Pride festival. I'm not going to take her to one this year because of ✨things✨ but I'm wondering if it would be bad to bring her to one next year.

The relevant context is that my grandma is a conservative Christian who believes being gay is a sin. She is also a Christian counselor/licensed therapist (maybe less relevant but still felt I should include). She knows that I am pansexual and always takes the time to understand the terms I use. She is not supportive, but she is kind and patient.

I'm not 100% sure why she wants to go, but I am 100% sure that it has nothing to do with wanting to tell people they're sinning or trying to evangelize to people in attendance. I want to believe that, especially since she wants to go, this could lead to change in her beliefs. She has shown the ability to change in the past.

Tldr: My homophobic grandmother is requesting to go to a Pride event with me. I am 100%sure she can and will behave herself. Would it be weird or harmful to take her to one next year?

Got to go to my first Pride festival today!! I've been out for about 7 years, now, but have been too scared of my parents' (who I unfortunately live with still as an adult) reactions to go celebrate. I am moving out this month, but I just told them I was going to a park with a friend today. Had a great time and got some great stuff 😋😋 Happy Pride!! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

Thinking about the time when I was 17 and my doctor wanted to ask me some questions without my mom in the room (do you do drugs, are you practicing safe sex, do you feel safe at home, etc.) and asked me if I was okay with that, to which I said yes. They then asked my mom if she was okay with it, and she said yes and left the room but gave me such a dirty look.

And then when we left, my mom was so fucking upset that I was okay with her leaving the room and "what could you possibly have to tell them that you wouldn't say with me there?" Bruh. Like, I wasn't doing drugs and I wasn't having sex and there was literally nothing concerning, but as a 17 year old I knew 100% they weren't gonna believe that with my mom sitting in the room?? And for some reason I really cared that they believed me at the time. But like, wtf mom.

Anyway idk I think I've been thinking about this (and another instance of me talking to doctors) because of what scene we're currently in the middle of on my blog for Roman Cates.
