When a character is revealed to be nonhuman, or a villain/living weapon while wounded, and the discovering character seems like they're about to point out the obvious in a horrified tone, only to go
"They're.... hurt."
Like yassss characters not caring at all about their friend's true identity. They only care that someone is need of help
Love me the trope of a nonhuman Whumpee, backing themself into a corner and begging Caretaker not to see them as dangerous after their past a living weapon comes out
Caretaker looking through the records of what Whumpee was put through and made to do as Whumpee pleads with them that they're still them! They're still the Whumpee Caretaker knows, that they've changed, that they aren't that monster anymore
And all Caretaker can do is look at them with a heartbroken expression, still holding the records of the torture Whumpee was put through as they whisper- "Whumpee, you were a child."
Living weapon whumpee (in my head it's rescued whumper(ee)) having a taste of freedom and not knowing what to do with it. But like, literally.
They don't know when to eat, when to shower, when to sleep.
At some point, Team starts to notice it? The don't exactly know what's going on, it's mostly just
"Hey man, ar' you not hungry? Why are you just... standing there, man?"
And then they eat when they're prompted to, and shower when they're asked to and sleep -- sometimes.
Bonus points if they used to be Washed and expect someone else to hose them down and are super Confused when they're asked to do it themselves. And Team member is even more confused, because what--
I was in a crappy gift shop earlier looking at mood rings and couldn't stop thinking about a whumpee whose eyes change colour depending on their mood/feelings/emotions. Whumpee can be as stoic as they like, but anyone close to them that knows what each colour means can see through their lies in an instant.
"I'm fine," Whumpee said, swallowing back a wince.
Caretaker snorted. "You're eyes are fucking crimson, you are not fine."
Alternately, Whumper figures out what each eye colour corresponds to and uses it to taunt Whumpee.
"I'm not afraid of you," Whumpee snapped.
Whumper hooked their finger beneath Whumpee's chin and tilted their head up. "Mmm... no, I think you are. Your eyes go such a pretty colour when you're scared."

➛ carelessly restrained with tight, rough ropes around their torso and wings, ripping out feathers and breaking skin and bone in the process “Please… I'll never be able to fly again…”
➛ whumpee having absolutely gorgeous feathers and being presented to all who want to see, with no say in the matter “Look, mom! So pretty! I want one for home!” – “We can check if they have one for sale, honey. Maybe for your next birthday, hm?”
➛ ripping out feathers for tools or decoration and shaming whumpee for the bald spots it creates “It looks… sickly. You sure its safe to be around?”
➛ big, beautiful wings wrapping around a bruised and battered body “Don't touch me, please... Leave me alone...”
➛ unable to put them in a brace after they break, causing permanent damage and pain when they heal
➛ whumpee ripping out their own feathers as a stress response, making whumper bind their arms at all times “Can't have you devaluing yourself, can we? Now be good and look pretty for us, yeah?”
➛ caretaker gently helps whumpee preen on their back after months of neglect, with all the patience in the world “Sssh… It's okay. I got the worst done already. Doesn't that feel good?”
➛ “My wings used make me free. I could go anywhere I wanted, whenever. Now, they're the reason for my cage.”
➛ that sinking feeling when even whumpee's saviours stop to marvel at their wings, once again making whumpee feel like an oddity and fearing for what their saviors' real intentions are
whumpee turned into a nonhuman thing like a puppet, doll, or automaton but still suffers from psychosomatic sensations like hunger, thirst, and the need to breathe.
Until their mind accepts they're no longer alive, the pain won't stop, without any means of relief.
CW: Animal cruelty (even though it's technically not an animal but a vampire, you get it.
A vampire turning into a bat is so intrinsically vulnerable and whumpy that I'm surprised I haven't seen this exploited in any vampire whump story out there (mine included).
Like of course a bat is tiny, cute, and extremely fragile, quite the opposite of a vampire. But the context!
Maybe silver triggers the metamorphosis, and they can't shift back as long as it touches them. Clip a little silver piercing through a membrane, let the vampire go, and you have effectively made a vampire harmless ! Nearly ethically too !
Maybe there's a delay between metamorphoses. Like they can't spam shifts, they must wait. So while they're stuck as a bat, they're vulnerable.
Maybe they can shift as will, but they're made to shift under a threat (a hunter menacing them with a stake), or they shift to try to escape, and they're locked into a cage, small but solid enough that if they try to shift back, they'll be crushed by the silver bars.
Maybe the whumper doesn't even know they're a vampire. They just smacked a bat and now it's crawling and trembling pathetically on their floor while a human loom over them. Injuries made to their bat shape translate to their vampire shape.
In rural areas in Europe, recently enough (now bats are protected so I don't think it happens anymore) bats used to be hunted down and nailed to barn doors, alive. Bad omens and superstitions yk.
A very old vampire surfacing from slumber for the first time in a while, shifting to explore, and having their bat-senses scrambled up by the technology.
Also great caretaking opportunity !
Of course the good old "Oh an injured bat on the sidewalk ! Let me put it in a dark box and bring it home to nurse it back to health!" And a crashing sound in the middle of the night as, surprise surprise, a bleeding vampire appears in the box.
Vampire in bat form holding onto caretaker's shirt, just snuggling there under the jacket. Only place they feel safe.

Sometimes whump is not enough. I need that guy to transform into an entirely different being through his trauma. He needs to be just barely recognizable
