In the beginning of June the Espoo City Council decided that the Latokaski Meadow will be replaced by a huge sport centre and a clinical city park. Thus the home of many butterflies, dragonflies and rich flora will be destroyed.  It is again a sad addition  into the row decision, which eliminates natural environments close to city inhabitants. In Espoo everything has price, but nothing has value.

The grassland part of the Latokaski meadow will again have late summer flowers. They are just popping up. It may be the last time, before the construction will start at the meadow. The formerly cultivated part of the meadow was full of cow parsleys and turned now brown, when the blooming is over.

Latokaski Meadow is rich of flowers, butterflies, dragonflies, bees and bumble bees. Now it is doomed. In the near future it will disappear and will be replaced by a large sport center.

Latokaskenniitty In Memoriam, part I – winter. I have several times written about Latokaski Meadow, which is located in the south-western Espoo. As told earlier, it was long time partly cultivated and partly nature meadow - and full of flowers, butterflies and dragonflies. During the two last summer there was no cultivation, but it was totally “wild”. And it was a sign of the coming change.

As I have written it is excellent place for sunset photographs. You always find a proper place with respect to the position of the sun. And it has been a favourite place for dog owners. However, the is city planning going on and the meadow is likely to be a place for quite a big sport centre. The city planning committee in Espoo has now approved the plan. The exact timing is still unclear. But anyhow it seems we are loosing again one nature place in Espoo.
