I'm officially into the Christmas spirit. Can we hope for an old-fashioned Christmas? Yes. Can we realistically hope for old-fashioned prices? Not a chance. I just finished watching the movie "The 9 Kittens of Christmas" on the Hallmark Channel. It was a roller coaster ride of a movie. There was one moment were two of the kittens seemed to be lost. They were found and yes the movie did have a happy ending. Our dryer is on the fritz so I've been running to the laundromat to dry clothes. I should pitch the idea of me visiting different laundromats and the unusual people I would meet. I think it would be a perfect fit for the Discovery + channel. Some folks at the place are a bit scary. I know it's 5 in the afternoon but that 50-year-old guy looks great in those Kitty Kat Pajamas. (Really pajamas in public in the afternoon? No way that screams loser.) Not a soul talks politics, inflation, or gas prices at the laundromat. Heck, most don't even look up from their phones. I had one oddball ask me how things were going. I told him: "It's been a good month, I've only had the police at my home once this week". He didn't talk to me after that comment. I know my wife would have told me that reply was uncalled for, but come on can't we all lighten up a bit? My belief is if God is watching us, the least we can do is be entertaining. Well, it's Santa Time now. Let the children see Santa. Okay, gang times are different and many places it seems are handling sitting on Santa's lap in special Covid friendly ways. When you go to Santa you can request "Limited Contact" which means talking with Santa from a distance or thru a plastic window. You can do "Full Contact" where you still get up on his lap and tell him what you want for Christmas. Finally, some places are allowing you to make a reservation so you can see Santa with no one around who could maybe give you Covid. Talk about sucking the atmosphere out of the Santa experience. Hey if you're really virus conscious you could just have your 5-year-old email Santa their Christmas List. What a great holiday memory that would make. Perhaps take a picture of them hitting the send button on the computer. Priceless! (All parents have stories of which of their children was the most frightened when they first sat on Santa's Lap. I can still hear the screaming from those special moments.) Do you know when my wife and I first started going out I used to ask her if our evening was going to be "Limited Contact" or "Full Contact"? She told me it was going to be full contact with her punching me in the nose, followed by a Restraining Order. I was just a pushover for a woman who played hard to get.
