Diamonds and Firebirds captain Laura Geitz is set to miss most (if not all) of the 2017 netball season after revealing that she and husband Mark are expecting their first child. Geitz, 28, broke the news to her Firebirds teammates following their ANZ Championship Grand Final victory at the end of July when she was 9 weeks along, but only made the annoucement public on Sunday.
Australian Netball Diamonds: Today the #RethinkRoleModels campaign was launched, celebrating the values of hard work, determination and passion in netball.
Throughout the campaign, Laura Geitz, Sharni Layton, Caitlin Bassett,Kimberley Ravaillion and Paige Hadley share their stories.
Proud netball post coming on...
I'm SO proud of, and excited for our Aussie netball girls, who bet NZ in the gold medal match in the Commonwealth Games last night, they totally deserved it!! I was quietly confident in the lead up games, we had been playing very well and I believe the depth of our bench is phenomenal! It is so lovely to see Julie Corletto back out there and playing fabulous netball (by the way putting Bianca Chatfield on the bench!) and working well with Laura Geitz (who I have always been a fan of and think is the perfect captain of our team). The mid court is also so strong, to think that both Sharni Layton and Kim Green didn't get a run because the other girls were playing so well is really something! And our shooters...Caitlin Basset is just amazing, it was also so good to see her depth when she played well on Aiken in the Semis when she couldn't be lobbed to, what a champion. Also love Medhurst, a tad disappointed we didn't see a bit more of Caldwell throughout the series, but the starting 7 was just SO toughly contested!!! Just proud as punch and so excited for the girls, I'm still smiling!

It has been so fantastic to watch Laura Geitz captain our Australian Netball Team over the past few weeks. She is so classy, genuine and professional on and off the court. She is an inspiration, leading by example and taking fantastic taps and intercepts just when we need them most! So proud to have her as our captain & looking forward to watching her lead QLD in the ANZ championships, and then Australia in the Commonwealth Games! Bring it on!!
