Laura x Mac “I did a pregnancy test.” requested by Jenny

Laura walked through her and Danny’s living room of their small home on Magnolia Road and out the backdoor into the hot summer air, smiling as she saw her friend blowing raspberries on her daughter’s stomach, the little giggle that escaped from Cassie was one of the best sounds in the entire world. She tapped Mac’s bicep with the bottom of the beer bottle and handed it to him as soon as he turned to her.

“You’re not going to have one?” Mac asked before taking a sip.

Laura shook her head “I’m still breastfeeding.” She answered, it wasn’t exactly a lie, and took a sip of the water that she had poured for herself before taking a seat beside him on the little blanket that she had put down a few hours earlier, pulling her daughter to her and kissing her neck, the giggle springing up again which cause Laura to grin. “I really don’t think I’m going to get sick of that giggle.” She says as she lets Cassie go and chase the little Pooh Bear doll that Mac had picked up and was making dance around the edge of the blanket.

“I still can't believe you have one of these.” Mac said before laughing as Cassie grabbed his arm and he pretended to be taken down “Oh! You’re so strong Cassie!” And the one year old giggled again as she crawled onto him.

Laura grinned, “Pretty great, right?” and Mac nodded. She hadn’t wanted children, always scared that they would be left without a mother just as she had been, but now, she loved being a mother and most of all she loved being a parent with Danny. She took another sip of the water and closed her eyes, turning her face to the sun overhead. She felt nervous about telling him the news, her first pregnancy had ended four months too soon and it had been hard on her and Danny and those around them. Cassie hadn’t been easy either, Laura had been bedridden for most of the pregnancy, and then the complications during the birth, Laura was happy to be alive and to be able to be a mother but she had done a very good job at scaring all those who loved her. That was why she and Danny hadn’t told anyone that they had started trying for a second child, just in case, but now three months had passed and she was excited to become a mother for a second time. “I can’t believe I’m going to have a second one.”

Mac laughed as Cassie tried to blow a raspberry on his cheek. “What?” He asked finally clueing into what Laura had just said.

Laura nodded.

“Let me hear that again, Peanut!” He said as he pulled Cassie into his lap and sat up straight.

“I’m three months.” Laura clarified.

“Are you serious?”

Laura nodded, biting the inside of her lip nervously, her smile on hold for the moment.

Mac looked down at Cassie for a moment and then at Laura before wrapping his arm around Laura and pulling her into a hug with him and her daughter. He laughed and kissed her cheek, “Congratulations, Peanut! That’s amazing!!”

Laura laughed and wrapped her arms around his neck, “You’re going to be an Uncle again.” She said as she finally let the grin spread across her face.

The two spent the rest of the afternoon playing in the backyard with Cassie, Laura taking it easy on the blanket and watching the two. It was the perfect afternoon.

She knew it was selfish as she looked over at what was supposed to be an empty space in their bed but she felt abandoned. Yeah, it was a selfish thought and she hated herself for it but Cam was gone and what was she supposed to do? He was off doing what he enjoyed and he couldn’t support her when he was in town? She had worked hard to be where she was, it wasn’t easy for a woman to be taken seriously in a job that was filled up with men. She didn’t understand why Cam didn’t get that, why couldn’t he support her when she was being praised for something she had worked hard on? She had gone to his shows when she could, that was support. 

Laura pushed the covers off her naked body and grabbed her bathrobe, wrapping it tightly around herself. Picking up her wedding ring off the nightstand and slipping it back onto her finger, such a cliche that she had to take it off just like she would press the framed picture of them on their wedding day face down against the nightstand. 

“I’m going to make some coffee, you’re welcome to it but I think you should go after.” She said as she heard the man who wasn’t her husband wake up, yes she could have been nicer but already this morning wasn’t going well and she was supposed to drive and see Cam. 

As she went to make the coffee she caught her reflection in the little mirror by the kitchen sink and she closed her eyes. Already she felt so guilty and dirty. This wouldn’t be able to happen again. She wouldn’t be able to do this again. She couldn’t do this to Cam no matter what she was feeling.

Andy

Andy hates wearing ties. He’ll really only wear them for meetings with potential investors, he prefers the first few buttons of his shirt left open. He doesn’t tell anyone this but since it’s more of a relaxed look, he thinks it becomes more “rock and roll.” When he’s not wearing a suit, he’s in jeans and a tshirt (probably with some sort of graphic on it), he can will be seen in khaki shorts and a baseball cap from time to time. 

He didn’t suspect Avery was a virgin until they started getting intimate, he never asked though because he didn’t think it was all that important, as long as she knew that she could say no at any point then everything was okay. 

He really doesn’t hate a certain genre of music. He will listen to everything and anything. Currently he’s been listening to a lot of early 00′s music, especially Tegan & Sara’s So Jealous record. He is also willing to talk music at anytime, even if it’s not anything to do with work, he just loves talking about music and bands and the history of both. 

He really does wish he could perform, he plays often, he just doesn’t believe he has any sort of real talent (though he does), he’s just very insecure about it. He still kicks himself for not being better at it and being a stronger person who could stand up on a stage and perform in front of people, the kicking usually happens when he’s at a concert watching the performers because god he wishes he could do what they were doing. 

Andy gets quite jealous, another insecurity of his. He doesn’t quite believe that he’s capable of having someone so fantastic as Avery stick around for much longer and so he gets jealous, when this happens he can get quite possessive. Yes, he is jealous of Micah even though he will deny it over and over again because really why should he be jealous of someone so tiny. 

In his twenties he was in a few relationship with several women at the same time. He didn’t consider them relationships just hook ups in various cities. He made sure that they all knew this but it can get very confusing to a woman when a man texts you that he’s thinking about you when you’re away from each other, and he had certain “charms” to get them to calm down when they got jealous. And perhaps the night he met Avery he had a fight with the woman he was seeing in NYC, because “why were you paying so much attention to her?” “It’s my job!”

Though he is incredibly proud of his brother, he’s also very jealous and he sometimes thinks that his parents are more proud of Jeffrey than they are him. This jealousy really does not get in the way of his relationship with Jeff though, and he goes to see as many concerts as he can. He loves his baby brother so much and the two of them are best friends. 

He really loves sex and he really doesn’t mind that Avery doesn’t give as much as she takes because he really loves performing oral sex. (just adding that because well, I had to) 

Though he loves Avery and she now knows this, he doesn’t say it much at all because he really doesn’t believe it needs to be said for it to be true.

He doesn’t have any tattoos, though he really loves the tattoos that Avery has. 

Laura 

She really misses Wyatt as a friend because he was such an important part of her life and though she thought she was ready to give up on that part now that it’s back she isn’t. 

She really feels the most comfortable around Mac, Danny, and Fiona. She feels she can tell them anything and everything and she wouldn’t receive judgement (though she knows that this isn’t quite true when it comes to Fiona). These are the three people in her life that mean the most (aside from her family) and the ones who she cherishes greatly. She honestly doesn’t know what she would do without any of them. 

When she was traveling for the first few months she didn’t know what she was doing and she doubted every move, she was quite angry that she hadn’t applied to any schools, and there were a lot of late night phone calls to her father asking him if this was really what she should be doing because she had spent her entire life wanting to be a lawyer and what if she was missing out on what she was supposed to be doing? 

She honestly doesn’t think that she will be a yoga instructor for the rest of her life and she does want to go to College to do something. What that something is though she isn’t quite sure. 

The title “Wife” or “Mrs” terrifies her and she isn’t sure what to do about that because now she’s engaged and is there any way you can get married and not be someone’s “wife” but “partner”??

The reason why she doesn’t want children is because she’s scared of dying and leaving them without her. She doesn’t want another child to experience what it’s like to grow up without a mother because it really impacted her, more than she lets on. And in the future when she’s pregnant with Cassie, even though she will act strong, she will be absolutely terrified. 

She doesn’t watch a lot of television unless it’s with someone else. When she’s at her house she will open a book rather than turn on a tv show or a movie. 

She isn’t a morning person, despite having to teach several early morning classes. She hates the morning and she hates waking up. She isn’t really a night owl either, though.  Beware waking her up because you will probably get sworn at. The only way to wake her up and not get a “fuck you” thrown at you is to have a cup of coffee ready and waiting. 

She’s really hoping to get Danny to travel for longer than two months. She wants to take him places, she wants to go to places she’s never been with him. It’s very important to her. It is also very important that he told her he would wait for her to come home from any trip she needed to take (actually one of the reasons that made her first start to think about marrying the guy). 

Turn on “Cuckoo” by Lissie and she will dance and sing along with full gusto. It is especially dangerous when she is driving but as she says “it’s a song you need to play when you’re driving.”

Laura had moved enough to know what it was like to meet new people. She was accustomed to it, getting to know people, the way your stomach tied itself in knots as you sat down at the table and wondered if there would be someone that you would click with. That wasn’t exactly what was happening tonight though, she had known Fiona a few years now and Danny she worked with him, or at least they worked in the same place and they had met a few times in the halls. It had been Fi’s idea to go out, get to know each other as a group kind of thing. It was weird that Danny and Fi knew each other but their friendship was just another thing to prove to Laura that the world was indeed small. 

She entered the bar and looked around. The table wasn’t too far away from the entrance and there sat Danny, Fi, and Sam all talking together. It was nice to already have friends like these, or at least to have this opportunity to make friends again. She greeted them, smiling as she took off her leather coat and hung it on the back of her chair, sitting down beside Danny.

There was no question in her mind that he was handsome, you’d have to be blind not to notice something like that but he was off limits to her, a broken heart was something that she wasn’t going to get involved in. She would be his friend and nothing more. The four of them started talking about their days, relaying stories both entertaining and mundane. Life was just this. Laura had always felt like it had to be something new, getting bored quickly as she settled down and moving on to the next city or country. But no matter how many places she went it was all the same, just the scenery changed along with the language. Work was work, though now she was doing something that she actually enjoyed and looked forward going to (of course there were those days when she just didn’t want to get up out of bed). She felt like an adult as she listened to each of them discuss their jobs. Danny loved his job as did Fi and Sam. All three of them having proper careers, four of them, though Laura didn’t really think of leading yoga classes as a job at all, it was just something she got paid to do and enjoyed doing. Scratch that, loved doing. 

It hadn’t been much, but he had laughed. A soft little laugh, turning to look at her as she cracked a joke and she turned to him and smiled. She couldn’t help it, his laugh was contagious. It didn’t last long, a few seconds really but they had both made each other laugh and that was what mattered to her. She would have to remind herself that Danny was off limits. But she knew one thing - she wanted to hear that laugh and see that smile as much as she could before she picked up and left again.
