Interview: Radio DJ Laura Leishman
Monday to Fridays, Canadian Laura Leishman hosts a show on Le Mouv FM the home of indie, electro, hip-hop, house and pop on Radio France. Starting tonight at 22:00 she begins a week long countdown of the top 50 singles of 2011. Not to be missed, we cornered the lady for a quick chat before the show.....
Weirdest thing that's happened during one of your interviews this year? Weirdly, Moby was an awesome guest. We talked about how he once almost formed a hard-core metal supergroup whilst hanging out in a strip club with 80's hair metal stars, played some Sepultura on air, then he did an acoustic cover of Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire with everyone in the studio doing back-up trumpet noises.
Best live music moment of the year in Paris? Lykke Li at Rock en Seine.
Which record have you heard playing the most at parties/clubs in Paris this year? Drake - Headlines.
Tell us something we don't know about your favourite French LP of the year Before The Shoes' excellent album Crack My Bones came out, I was at the same restaurant as one of them who was with a vocalist they've worked with Esser. Apparently they were quite poor at the time because they tried to skip out on the bill, got caught, and I paid for their meal. They repaid me with an excellent session for my show.
Tell us something we don't know about your favourite French single of the year? Gesaffelstein, producer of the incredible single OPR, is a real-life vampire who never sees the light of day. Or so he tells me.
Who do we need to know about for 2012? Who, or rather what you need to know about for 2012 is Bromance Records. It's Brodinski's new label and everything he touches turns to gold. He also has amazing hair.
What's the next big thing happening on your show before 2011 ends?! For the last week of 2011, I'll be broadcasting the top 50 singles of the year as chosen by my listeners, who thankfully have impeccable taste!!
What's your favourite Xmas song?!! Easy. Mariah Carey - All I Want for Christmas Is You. Here
