The Small Stuff
You know that quote, “don’t sweat the small stuff”? I get it, I like the idea, but whoever authored this quote was clearly not a small stuff sweater. Small stuff sweaters aren’t even sweating the small stuff. ***It’s impossible to lump all anxious people into one category, so I’ll just explain this in terms of my own personal experience. *** If you run into me and I’m having a melt down, for reasons only attributable to human nature, you're going to ask me what’s wrong, I’m going to ramble about the most mundane, silliest reasons to be upset. You’re going to categorize me as a small stuff sweater. The truth is, I’m detail oriented. I notice the small stuff. And so it’s not just small stuff, singular, it’s small stuffs, plural. It’s the cap that’s left off the mouthwash AND the toilet paper roll that’s left empty AND the dishes left unrinsed AND the garbage left unchanged AND the homework left unedited AND the silverware your coworkers didn't roll AND the 10% tip that took a lot of work to get, etc.
This is just to keep you thinking, next time someone freaks out on you for opening a new jar of peanut butter before the old one is truly empty - there's more small stuff in there so don't judge.
