When my close friend Alan Merrill died of covid19 back in March, all I really knew about his eldest daughter Laura was that she was incredibly beautiful and a wonderful singer, artist and photographer, I had never felt the need to cross that generational divide and get chummy with the daughter of my friend, it seemed a weird thing to do. However, since his death I have personally felt that need to get to know her better, that link suddenly seems so important. Alan was a massive part of my world and Laura, so wonderfully talented in her own right is now emerging as a beacon of his legacy , and is so like Alan in so many ways herself.
