He was raised by nuns and probably lived in a church or mission with the nuns.

All I can imagine is a tiny Jojo handing out bread and coffee to newsboys and eventually growing so infatuated with the idea of being a newsboy that he bursts with excitement to one of the sisters, begging her to let him be a newsboy.

Jojo should be loved and appreciated.
