at one time, laurie might have found this setting peaceful. it wasn’t as cold as fall in haddonfield, and the chill that was in the air was taken care of by the warm glows of the campfire in front of her and the woven blanket over her shoulders. people were already starting to drift off all around her after the long afternoon and early evening of hiking, setting up camp... and for some more hiking. laurie however, hadn’t left the campsite after she’d arrived and set up. it could have very well been safe enough in those woods as long as someone stayed on the path... however, the thought of going off alone or even with only one or two others made her feel anxious.
no.. staying here, surrounded by hundreds of people was the better idea. even still... she knew she wouldn’t be getting much sleep that night. even if she dozed off, her anxiety would inevitably rouse her anyway. it was two days... she’d gone longer without sleep and she knew how to make coffee without electricity. it would be fine. her gun was hidden underneath the pile of yarn at her side as she knitted away... a habit she’d picked up over the years since moving here. it kept her mind calm and her hands busy. she glanced up from the needles in her hand when she felt a shadow, jumping slightly at the sight of a man. letting out a sigh, shaking her head. “shit...” she muttered, her gaze going back to her hands then back up. “you shouldn’t sneak up on people like that. say something as you walk over, take heavier steps, wear a fucking bell or something...” she narrowed her eyes at him as she studied him for a moment. something about him... made her anxious, but she didn’t recognise him. (not without the mask) “sorry, i don’t mean to be rude. i’ve been a little tense since i got here.”
she set her knitting aside, reaching for her cup of coffee and taking a sip before reaching for the kettle. “since it seems i’m not the only one who can’t sleep... would you like some coffee?”
