Hal had seen it coming, his analogue radio picked up the local stations which sent out regular messages about boarding up windows, securing anything not nailed to the floor and being 'weather aware'. The dark clouds were off in the distance but were moving in their direction. Hal knew he could drive away, drive out of state, avoid the weather all together but he liked Kentucky, he had friends in the local towns and would hop from place to place to see them. Hal was doing some odd jobs here and there in exchange for money or something on his van being fixed. He decided he would see the storm through, he would stay in his van and weather it out. It wouldn't be his first time and would not be the last.
He knew about a spot, it was a dirt patch people used to park up on long journeys but the attraction to the land was the fact that it was behind a big rocky hill. With the predicted wind direction Hal knew there was a chance of being somewhat sheltered by the storm. Hal parked up, saw he wasn't the only one with this idea but he didn't mind. Hal hopped out of the drivers seat, his long curly hair looked more wild in the breeze, his clothes were big and hanging off of his body drowning in a big sweatshirt with a graphic of a racoon on the front with the words ' I put the fun in dysfunctional" underneath.
Hal opened the back of his van and pulled out his gas camping stove along with a bag of groceries. "Gonna get myself some food" he muttered to himself "gotta make sure I eat" he looked up at the sky with his mouth open deep in thought wondering if it was about to rain.
Hal stood for a moment and sung lowly almost under his breath
"Well it's cloudy in the morning gonna be raining in the afternoon
Cloudy in the morning and it's gonna be raining in the afternoon
If you don't like this rainy weather you better pack your bags and move
But if you're running from it brother the only road that I can see
If you're running from it brother the only road that I can see
Is the road that leads to nowhere and nowhere is a fool like me"
As Hal looked to the side he spotted someone, someone young, about his hight, about his age and looked an awful lot like him. "Aye yo" he held his hand out, made his way over while tripping on a rock nearly losing his balance. "Hello" he waved thinking the man couldn't hear him "hello!" he tried for a third time.
