Jason todd for the 1920s style 👉👈
Confession time! I knew this one was gonna show up and i didn't have the slightest clue how to go about it. I was very tempted to skip it ( But i didn't!!)
I don't consume a lot of batfam media so i'm not the most familiar with some of the kids so apologies in advance if there's anything amiss
In my opinion the biggest change for Jason is actually the silhouette. men during this period more often than not wore high-waisted pants and this "effeminate" silhouette was considered highly masculine throughout many different periods in history.
Second change is the actual wardrobe, duh. You probably know already that the 20's did not have Kevlar (1965) or spandex (1959). Sports wear from the Victorian era and 20's knits, wools, and leathers. But there's also something else highly associated with batman which we don't see in the 20s :
The graphic
which if you've seen my design for Bruce you'd notice there's no batlogo. I didn't add one for the same reason i omitted it for Jason (and will continue to omit for the other designs in this series). clothing graphics didn't exist. Graphics like that didn't come around until the late 1930's (and tbh this is why some of the canon designs for "period" batmans make me mad). So you're not gonna see batlogos (on clothing) from me.
This design for Jason was heavily influenced by 1800's and 1920's motorsports as well as pilots from ww1. Many of these individuals would wear caps that buckles under the chin accompanied by goggles. I went this rout because i felt like just putting the red hood mask on him would be cheating and would look too contemporary
also they had bellbottoms in the twenties, funfact
thank you for coming to my ted talk
