My Theory (added gifs for fun)

I did post this in the comments but thought I’d compile it here too.

And please bear in mind part of this is fueled by my biased shipping of David and Julia ...

Ok so in the light of day (and with the now absence of gin) my theory seems to be not that wild, and not that credible lol! But hear me out:

So my belief is firstly that the security service were the ones responsible for the bombing at the end of the last episode. But that the Police were responsible for the sniper. I think that it's evident on Ann's face that she had nothing to do with the bombing as she looked really shaken so I think that rules her out. I think Stephen and this Longcross-not-Longcross guy orchestrated the bomb. But I don't think Rob or Tahir had anything to do with it.

I think Rob was setting up Tahir by fucking the speech up and that the whole case thing is a total red herring. I also think Rob is a snake, but not a killer. Anyway moving on - I think that the police had previously orchestrated a team of would be assassins in the forms of the guy Chanelle got into the car with, David and Andy.

I don't know if they knew they were being worked to kill her or if it was more of a subtle, suggestive thing but I think that when Andy said to David 'you have to finish the job' he was referring to this unofficial mission they'd been given. This also might explain why David lied about what was said on the rooftop but doesn't explain why David looked surprised to see Andy... yet) But then we see David burying the gun in the wall (I previously thought this was odd - that perhaps he didn't want to be associated with Andy) which now I believe was him changing his mind.

At this point he still doesn't know whether to hate or trust Julia but I think he is starting to have second thoughts on account of his family and perhaps worrying what will happen to him.

Anyway moving forward, I think David starts to develop some kind of emotional attachment to Julia - shown when he profusely apologies for accidentally(?) strangling her and he genuinely seems upset when she says she doesn't know whether she wants him replaced. He also seems very upset at the hospital at the end - I suppose you would be if you’d been bombed however he cradled her head a little when he was checking whether she was alive. I also found it odd that he looked like he was about to cry when she said she wanted to have a proper relationship, in the open with him. Perhaps it's because he knows that, despite no longer wanting to carry out the assassination, that she will find out he was involved at the beginning and likely feel betrayed because, despite what others think, I think she has developed feelings for him. She thinks about him when she's alone and supposed to be working. There would be no need for her to be acting manipulative whilst on her own, if that's all it is.

In short - I think David was involved in a Police conspiracy to kill her (whilst the SS are also working on their own conspiracy to take her down) and that he changed his mind due in part to his feelings for her, but also in part for his family's safety and that the SS are the ones who have now taken up the baton to kill her over the supposed blackmail situation.

Yeah sounds shit now lol. Thought I was a genius last night haha!!!
