He wasn’t hurt by the blow. He had endured greater impacts in comparison. Nevertheless, he was still harmed. The agony within him had not been a result of shielding his companion from a devastating assault, but more so the question which came after it. He was no fool. It’s just that... Hythlodaeus had proven themself to be an imbecile. It was so simple, so easy to understand as to why he had come to do such a thing.

“Because I didn’t want you to get hurt,” he answered as he picked himself up, refusing any offered assistance. Seriously, how could they not know? “And before you tell me you could’ve evaded that, you’d find yourself in danger again. That’s just how you are.”

“Did it look like I was?” Truth is, he was genuinely not trying to. It’s just that... he doesn’t do well with expressions. Still, people back home could definitely attest that he has improved, if only a little bit. “Look at me, please,” he teased and pulled them ever closer to him. ”I’ve naught to hide from you.
