The icy cold stone of the castle crypt rushed up to meet Pyro, vampiric healing doing nothing to soften the blow as he crashed, flailing. Blood seeped from the open wounds crossing his chest, and remnants of his armor finally tumbled off his body, leaving him weak and defenseless.
How fitting, that this would be where they would finally meet their end.
Caught in the cold, unyielding embrace of stone, just as Avid was.
Footsteps echoed through the hallway, precise and fury-filled. Shelby said nothing as she approached, fury burning in her bloodred eyes.
“Shelby, think about this-” Pyro stammered out before another hit to the face knocked him sideways, eyes watering with the force of the blow. “You don’t understand what’s going to happen-”
“I’ve been thinking all day.” She drawled, drawing a stake from a pocket in her skirt.
For one, terrifying second, all Pyro could see in his fledgling was Scott.
Standing over him, just like that day at the lake. When they were splashing through the water, trying to escape. It had been pointless then, resistance.
Just like it was now.
Another blow to the face, another reminder of how their immortal life was slowly ticking to an end. “Shelby, you need to understand-” they swung out with their claws, catching their fledgling’s arm, trying to prevent the inevitable. “Scott— you don’t understand what he’s going to do to you-”
A final blow cracked across his cheek, completely knocking him to the floor, and there was no Shelby.
Only Scott, standing before them, wearing Shelby’s face, her hair, her clothes. Holding a stake sharpened to a cruel point. The voice that echoed from him had Shelby’s voice, roughened from their time in Oakhurst.
As the stake pierced his chest, the illusion dropped for a moment, and he could once again see his fledgling as she drove the stake through. “Scott’s going to be happy.” Their voice was final, and the last thing Pyro saw was a flash of blue in Shelby’s hair and a furious golden glint in her eyes.

I like the idea of a father-son relationship between Morcant and Abolish. Dad and this kid he pulled from the wreckage who follows him everywhere
Morcant being the only one who actively wanted to be around Abolish after he was turned. Morcant still wanting to help and guide the person who he saved from the ruined remains of his childhood. Abolish clinging to this fleeting sense of normality as the rest of his time is spent relearning and building himself up again. When Abolish has to lead the charge to exterminate a coven of vampires by the order of the organization, Morcant is behind him.
And when Abolish wakes up in Oakhurst 300 years later, still aching from his injuries and the holy magic of the beacons that are sealing him in place, he begins his search. A frantic grab at safety, at normalcy, after being turned into a weapon that was then left to rust.
Abolish learning that he will never get the chance to be loved and safe again like he did with Morcant. That his literal father figure was dead and gone and Abolish had failed him.
Something something you failed the one that had never failed you. Something something sometimes it's easier to blame yourself than acknowledge that what happened was out of your control. The ache of being left behind by someone you cared so deeply about.
make the idgafer care i guess is what im getting at

experiencing an idea again
a continuation of my firelocke oneshot, where the presence of curses has brought back the dead (leaving them cursed and actively decaying due to said curse) and the survivors of oakhurst have to witness the horrors
sorry if this is incoherent and vague im. very tired.
From one cage into another
The woods of Oakhurst seemed to call to him in a way that the cathedrals at home never seemed to do. Stained glass of saints had stared down at him, eternally judging his sins and graces. Here, free from the unrelenting stare, rage consumed his thoughts, his mission temporarily forgotten and replaced with one of his own. Abolish stormed through the woods, sword and axe at the ready. Clouds covered the moon, casting the entire forest in a dull red glow. He was done with these vampires, the lives they destroyed with their careless freedom. “Have the decency to show yourselves,” he thought, slicing cleanly through the leaves that blocked his path. Nothing stopped him. Nothing would compromise his mission.
Silence followed him, folding around him until he was as imperceptible as a creature of the night, flashes of silver mimicking eyes between the trees. “Get the cure books and come home.” The order echoed through his mind. Get the books. Come home. A deceptively simple directive that had transformed into something ugly beneath Abolish’s chest.
A little snippet from the fic im writing. Scott Goldsmith making everyone worse :)
