HELLO! The animal shelter I volunteer now is going to lose one of their biggest incomes by the end of the year, (70% of their stable income is going to be gone by the end of the year) So I decided to help by putting my ACGGOODS store into good use! All the stickers and future products on the animal shelter category will go to help the shelter!

I'm fucking sick and tired of people telling me that AI is harmless or they don't care or whatever so I'm compiling most of the reasons why it fucking sucks right here, I'm putting it on tumblr in case anyone else needs it, with sources and everything.

First and foremost, the "art" it creates is just shit. There is no soul behind it and it's lifeless, and it just generally looks bad a lot of the time (I recognize that AI has been getting better but I'd like to note this point anyways) Source? This point is mildly opinionated, so make your own conclusions. Secondly, AI companies are scraping the internet to feed their models, and taking lots of copyrighted material to do so. People are having their art and writing taken, dubiously legally, at best. [Source(s): 1, 2] AI can even copy specific artstyles with a prompt including an artist's name. Copyright law is constantly being violated for the sake of these AI models. [Source(s): 3, 4, 5]

Thirdly, the environmental issues. AI data centers consume massive amounts of water in order to cool AI chips, which run very hot; and afterwards, what was fresh water is usually evaporated. Small communities are having their fresh water consumed by these data centers. And a lot of electricity is taken up as well. [Source(s): 6, 7, 8] And! Water isn't even the only environmental concern. AI data centers just take up a lot of resources in general to actually build and greenhouse gases are released. [Source(s): 9, 10, 11]

Then there's the misinformation. AI lacks cognitive function, and can't tell the difference between people being misinformed or lying, people making shitposts and the like, and the factual information. So, essentially, AI lies. It can't fact-check any information, it just spits out whatever the most popular thing in it's dataset is. [Source(s): 12, 13]

Speaking of, my next point is the perpetuation and reinforcement of stereotypes and bigotry, in all it's forms. AI, like I said, just spits out whatever the most common; so minorities, who are—by definition—more uncommon in mainstream media, will be represented less in the results of generative AI. E.g. if asked to generate an image of a doctor, even without anything in the prompt about gender, race, etc., the doctor in question will likely be a white man. Or, an autocorrect system may detect 'his husband' or 'her wife' as wrong since homosexuality is heavily underrepresented in AI datasets. And in any prompts not specifically asking for it, you'd likely never see a disabled person or POC unless an activity being specified is stereotyped as being done by the minority in question. Next, I've been told that what AI does is no different than what humans do in terms of inspiration, but that's simply not true. AI uses the art it 'sees' as samples, essentially cut and paste across a massive dataset until no one piece of work is recognizable in the output. Humans, however, take inspiration. We can come up with ideas of our own without ever having to have seen it beforehand. We can change things. How do you think humans came up with fantasy creatures and the like without anything even similar ever existing? [Source(s): 19]

And AI also hurts our own ability to be creative and think. People are becoming dependent on AI for the sake of simple tasks that they're too lazy to do. Our brains are muscles that need to be trained and used like any other before they atrophy. [Source(s): 20, 21, 22]

AI is also fucking up many people's social skills. AI chatbots are the only "social" interaction some people are getting. Chatbots are tuned to agree with whatever the user says, so when a person is confronted about something from an actual person, they can't respond properly. This could also create a dependence on these chatbots in frequent users of them. [Source(s): 23]

Now, the most recent development in this whole sack of mechanical shit is the book destruction. AI companies are scanning printed books, feeding them into AI datasets, and then destroying the original printed copies. Many of these books are centuries old, obscure, and no longer being printed. And these AI companies are Destroying. Them. Entirely. Maybe my personal biases are sneaking through here, since I absolutely adore old literature and books in general. But What. The. Fuck.

Millions of books.

This is by far the most irreversible of all the shitty aspects of AI that I just made seven paragraphs about. These books are potentially being lost altogether, their spines ripped off and their pages scanned. So much literature that's potentially survived centuries of burning, carelessness, and the sands of time as a whole, only to be very deliberately torn apart all to fuel the misinformation machines and to write better emails.

Sincerely, go fuck yourself AI companies. This is horrendous.

And my final point is why? Why take something so inherently human as art—what some people even consider to make us human, make us stand out from all the other creatures of Earth—and dilute it with this soulless, factory-made, shitstain on our collective conscious? I know why companies and corporations do so—money, obviously. It's so they don't have to pay artists. But why would individual people take the humanity out of these essential human activities? I assume laziness, the lack of want to learn any sort of art, only make it for profit or whatever.

So it all boils down to capitalism. Of course it's capitalism. I could honestly go on an entire other 9-12 paragraph rant about why capitalism is a nightmare and fucking awful, but I'm honestly just so, so tired. No sources besides empathy needed here.

I hope at least somebody gets something out of this.

hmmm… I think I would definitely be an avian hybrid… probably a magpie :D for physical characteristics I’d say wings obviously, sharper teeth, and some feathers around my hair! Headwings are fun but I like my earrings too much… maybe pointed ears though :}

okay so points for avian: i. Freaking love wind. Wind and high places it’s kind of weird but it’s cool. I also definitely have some vocal stims I do that sound like birdcalls. And in the vein of “avians tend to be chaotic gremlins”… yeah y’all know me lol. And pressure stim with blankets and stuffed animals! Which is basically the technical way to say “nest” XD

points for magpie: first thought about it off a personality quiz forever ago, but they rly fit! I literally. Have boxes of shiny rocks and things. I also love wearing a bunch of rings/earrings/necklaces/etc, again with the shinies. Magpies are also green and blue in addition to black and white, and those are my favorite colors! They’re corvids and I love corvids… my silly little birds that don’t make sense :D (smarter than they should be, songbirds with wings like birds of prey, mirror recognition, etc) they also mimic voices! Magpies are one of the birds in the One For Sorrow rhyme, and three (my favorite number) for a girl! This is getting really rambly and specific IVE PUT TOO MUCH THOUGHT INTO THIS XD
