Ooh just saw your time travel ask - what are your favorite completed SW fics in general? I've been trying to expand my own list :)
okay so i compiled this list and then realized that pretty much all of these focus on anakin and/or vader lol who is surprised!! not any of y’all, i bet
these recs, of course, reflect my specific tastes. aside from the anakin/vader focus, they’re pretty wide-ranging. we have luke & dad vader gen, anidala, obikin, leia & vader, anakin & obi-wan kinda-gen.... hopefully there’s something new and helpful here! ~signed, the terrible bookmarker who forgets to save Cool Things all the time
♥ “Force Bond AU” series is the one i always jump up and down waving. vader encounters luke when he’s 12 and raises him from thereon out. it was written post-prequels but prior to TCW, so vader is much more stable. it’s extremely long and has lots of parts; so while it seems like just one rec, it’s actually a lot of reading.
♥ “in loco pirates” another luke & vader fic, featuring hondo ohnaka, one of my favorite characters! hondo captures post-ESB luke and lures vader to florrum, where they get caught up in one of hondo’s pirate squabbles. it’s part of an incomplete series but stands alone.
(what i love about both of these pieces is that they explore who anakin is as vader. there are a lot of amazing OT fics written pre-prequels, but my favorites are the ones that include anakin-as-vader. also luke & vader is my favorite sw relationship.)
♥ “double agent vader,” an ongoing series of shorter fics, AU where vader is, you guessed it, a double agent and works with leia (who doesn’t know who he is) against the empire. fialleril has world-built a tatooine slave culture that has become very real to a lot of fandom. because each fic is completed, even though the series is continuing, i feel comfortable listing it.
♥ the world undone by @writegowrite, the alternate ani & obi history with dark!obi-wan. so beautifully structured and executed, delicious characterization; a filling and lovely fanfic meal.
♥ “if blood be the price” by cadesama, alternate AotC, features anidala and obi & ani. anakin runs away as a teenage padawan to join a tatooine slave uprising and later becomes dooku’s (semi?) apprentice while leading a slave revolt in the outer rim. i generally love cadesama’s work, and this, like “the world undone,” is as solid and deft as any published novel.
♥ “wake the storm” by bedlamsbard. hmm, i guess this one would also classify as a time-travel fic! i forgot to mention it in the other rec xD it’s part of a series that i think won’t ever be finished, since the author moved eras, but i do feel this one is complete enough to rec. anakin and vader switch places in time and anakin, with the help of his rebel twins and obi-wan’s ghost, has to get back home.
that’s it for now.... i completely understand why we don’t want to get invested in 10-year-long ongoing WIPs! just, i tend to get trapped in those xD
