So you have a weedy lawn,
And you, or your HOA, want it to be less weedy. Or maybe you're just tired of catsear, that ever-present, less pretty, dandelion look-alike.
You know what's fun?
Knifing out all that catsear, making a 2 to 4 inch deep hole,
And pushing in a crocus bulb,
And then mushing the remaining grass back in place.
Come next late winter/early spring, you'll be blessed by a lawn studded with some of the earliest blooms- and feeding the earliest pollenators. It'll look natural, with drifts of blossoms, because it's growing where weeds have randomly sown themselves. As a bonus, the crocus will have completed their growth cycle and gone dormant by the time it's mowing season.
Just an idea. This was inspired by one of my favorite views growing up, which was an old road through town where all the old houses had carpets of crocuses that came up in their lawns every spring. Seriously gorgeous!
