Somewhere Unknown, Someone New

It seemed like just another normal day for the mermaid hybrid. The same ‘meal’, if you could even call one raw fish a meal, the same cage, the same everything. Kyoko let out a tired and weak sigh from where she remained under the water, bubbles floating to the surface at the action. What she would give to be like one of those bubbles, free and able to escape from where they were released. But that was impossible.
At least, that’s what she had thought for all these years.
Suddenly, a shadow fell over the surface of the water in her cage, resulting in the mermaid staring up at the top in confusion while a small crab peaked its head out of her tangled mess of crimson hair. With in moments, Kyoko was grabbed by strange hands, pulled out of the water by several strange looking people. Kyoko had no idea who exactly they were, which caused the mermaid to react in a panic, hissing violently and threateningly at them the entire time she was handled.
After a several long moments and a small car ride, she had been placed into another watery cage, this time not inside an aquarium but in what looked like a mansion almost. Kyoko retracted her small fangs back inside in her mouth once she had calmed down, staring around in the clear water at her surroundings while her small crab friend crawled out of her hair onto the top of her head. The cage she was in was hardly a cage, it was almost like a pool but instead of being indented in the floor it was above it. It was very large, way bigger than the exhibit she had been placed in four long years ago when she had been captured.
Even though this new environment was way better than anything she had ever been in, Kyoko wasn’t enjoying it at all for the moment, the sickly mermaid pressing herself into one of the corners of the thick glass walls like a frightened cat would, crimson hues widened in fear while her ruby necklace glittered from where it remained around her neck.
