so guys we had creative writing competition today. they told us that we could write a poem or a story or an essay and the topic would be given to us at the spot. and i told my dad yesterday that i could never write a poem spontaneously because even when i have a topic in my mind and i think about it the whole day, the poem is never satisfactory. so i would just write an essay. but guess what? i ended up writing a poem and i actually think it's pretty good. the topic was "all adults seem..."
All adults seem so smart,
With knowledge about their needs,
Perfection reflecting in their deeds,
Wisdom reflecting in their words.
All adults seem so bold,
Confidence in their eyes,
Strength in their bones,
Clarity in their minds.
All adults seem so happy,
Eyes crinkling with laughter,
Cheeks adorned with dimples,
Smiles lighting up the world.
All adults seem so organized,
Clothes set perfectly in closets,
Books set perfectly in racks,
Food set perfectly in plates.
But when I look carefully,
I wonder why I see
A little hesitation before speaking,
Creases of tension on their foreheads,
Dried tears staining their cheeks,
An ironed shirt folded inside out.
I wonder why they pretend
To be okay when they're not.
But then I realize that
I already know why.
Because if they fall apart,
Who'll be there for us?
If they break down,
Who'll take care of us?
But I wish, for once,
They would give us a chance
And let us be the ones
To make them feel smart,
To make them feel bold,
To make them feel happy,
To make them feel perfect.
And for once,
It would not be a pretense...
