i started a new Factorio world today and chose ribbon world in the presets. i didn't preview it or mess with any sliders and it was only after i had gotten 2-3 hours in did i wonder where my oil source was. having traveled both directions for quite some ways i didn't find anything but massive nests of worms and biters. so massive that they block any progress forward and i will have to go through them

this is a bit of a challenge. Since i dont have oil i dont have access to any oil based weaponry like the rocket launcher or blue science research because i cant manufacture plastic. So i am locked out of the tank, lasers, higher damage bullets, and armor upgrades

the car is too weak against acid attacks and being swarmed by biters so the only “armor” i have is the train. so i have been forced to make loops of track that dip down into the nest and as i zip by i chuck grenades out of the window. i go fast enough that i dont get hit by the worms acid and its tanky enough to survive a few seconds if a track piece breaks and i have to change direction while being mobbed. if it was just nests of biters this would be easy: throw up some walls and some turrets and just keep putting layers up until the nest is gone, but with the high density of worms they just keep targeting (and hitting) me before i get close enough so i am being forced to do wacky shit. I just want to research the tank
