he’s protective of his space: jonathan crane not only needs his own time, but he needs a room, a safe space for him to be when everything seems to be falling apart.
and things fell apart almost monthly in gotham: between his fellow rogues being caught, himself being caught, problems with deals and plans and backstabbing, and x backstabbed x so you can not associate with x anymore. seems like highschool FUCKING drama, and it tires him.
he has his fair share of alliances: you can’t go anywhere without alliances in that world, and alliances don’t always mean friendships. jonathan does not give a fuck about the intrigues and drama inside the gotham underworld. he’ll associate with whoever he wants as long as it gives him something.
and this doesn’t always sit well for jon: people feel betrayed, and people put a target on his back. just a normal week, truly: so he decides to have some off time. he cleans all his hideouts, hides all his goons and goes back to the little apartment he has -- JONATHAN, has, not the scarecrow.
❝ — you are aware my house is not a hotel ?? or some type of public property ?? ❞ and he doesn’t appreciate his quiet time being interrupted: he doesn’t even need to raise his gaze to know it's him: he recognizes the steps. giving him a spare key wasn’t the best idea he had ( did he give him a spare key ?? it’s the only logical explanation... most have forgotten about it ) ❝ you - you don’t even like my apartment. what do you want ?? ❞ it’s not polite to show up uninvited.
