“ i’m FINE — ” it’s a reassurance more directed at herself than anyone. one she used to convince herself that she hadn’t been STUPID; reckless, maybe, but not stupid. but truth be told, she could find another word for the act; a reason why she felt the need to step into the lake. it was only her feet at first, then a little FURTHER. and though she knew of the beast lurking underneath, she did it anyway. found herself with water up to her hips. and though she’d been LOOKING out for the monster, i didn’t matter. because while she had SEEN it, she wasn’t in a place that she could get away quick enough. not without falling onto the rock; HITTING her head and SCRAPING her shin. hand lifted to her forehead as brown hues drifted up to atlas. looked at him; line drawn between brows. “ DON’T say you told me so. ”
