day 2!! icy conditions, but we made do. Le Massif has the best view, hands down. and they have some pretty abundant wildlife for such a busy hill! best part of the day was when a red squirrel darted right out in front of us while we were skiing - right across the run and back into the trees! it was so cute! they also like to eat all the seeds in the birdhouses. you’re riding up the chair lift and there they are, sitting and munching :) those chickadees have to fight for the food!

LE MASSIF.

DAY 3. LE MASSIF.

The viiieeeewwwwwwww, people. The view. You’re right on the St. Lawrence, and it feels like you’re going to ski right into the river from the top. It was warm again today - 0 C, so near lunch time the freezing rain started again. The snow was very heavy and, uh chunky, is the best word I can use to describe it, so my legs were pretty beat by early afternoon. I talked with another lady from Halifax (48 Nova Scotians from a ski club were in Beaupre the same time as me) on the lift, so that was fun! If I could work as a ski patrol at Massif, I would literally never leave. Maybe during retirement?

On the way back, I stopped at the Basilica of Sainte Anne-de-Beaupre, which is named after Saint Anne, Jesus’s grandmother. I hadn’t been for over a decade, so I didn’t know if I had to pay to tour it. I think there was only one other car in the parking lot. I walked into the info building to check, and was greeted by a very nice lady – who recognized me from the ski hill! She’d been working the day before in the chalet and remembered me. So she grabbed her booklet and talked with me about the church for 15 minutes, about the mosaics, statues, history of the church and so on. It was very informative. Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to tour for very long, as a mass was starting in about 15 minutes. But still, it was nice to see it again. The building is an absolute marvel. I’d like to take half a day sometime to really absorb the details.

Alas, my skiing time is done :(. I would post photos of today, but the wi-fi isn’t that great here and won’t let me load the photos. So I’ll add ‘em in later. Driving back home tomorrow. I’m going to look up French classes in the meantime…
