Daisy - What inspired you to create your OC?

Theo: So I wrote a prompt about a Pet being delivered to an animal sanctuary by mistake and decided I wanted to write it (of course). And I'd been wanting to write a deaf whumpee for a while – I kind of wanted to explore how the BBU and WRU specifically deal with disabilities like that. Bc there's clear limitations – hearing orders, for example – and things that would have to be changed in order for disabled boxies to serve as boxies should.

Honestly, before I decided to make the box boy in this story deaf (well... the only box boy at that point lol), I sort of came up with the idea of a disability drive for WRU. To promote their inclusiveness, their message that everyone can be a Pet, bc I imagine they'd get accused of discrimination – to which they'd respond that it's not their fault, they don't control their clients' wishes, but hey! We'll go on a propaganda drive to clear that up! Take nice photos of disabled people signing contracts! That'll clear things up!

Anyway. It was a combination of the idea of that drive, wanting to do a deaf boxie and that prompt, and honestly? I did a picrew and Theo was just cute.

And he's short, bc of course he is.

Lea: I wanted Theo to have had another boxie he was separated from before being abandoned, and I wanted her to be a woman. Originally she wasn't meant to be in the story until later, and her personality was different too (and story), but then I made her picrew and fell in love with her. And that's when the personality she has now started appearing too.

Also, I read... I feel like it was Daniel and Star (by @flowersarefreetherapy) I was reading at that point? So the idea of her and Theo being Bonded seeped into my writing. And also I wanted to look at platonic Bonded pairs, bc up until that point what I'd seen were pretty much all Romantic Bondeds, which I love but didn't want to write. Although when I wrote the first piece they bonded naturally through being bought together, not Bonded by WRU deliberately. It was during Whumptober that the idea of making them WRU Bonded came into it fully I think (it was seeping through tbh anyway but actually as a conscious decision it was then that I made it).

The idea for her to be refurbished as a Romantic and forget Theo didn't come until a couple of weeks ago, though.

Ah. That got long. That was not just her initial creation. Sorry.

Sunflower - What name(s) were you originally thinking of calling your OC?

Theo: My idea was to have him named something that could be made from his number. I liked the name Hugo but alas that didn't fit. So, I listed the letters that could come from numbers if you put them into a calculator and worked it out from there and resisted calling him Boobies.

Lea: This was her first name. I was desperate for one by the time Lea came to mind. She's had her number for months, but I could not think of a name. I did debate for a bit – Lea or Leah? – and partly went for Lea over Leah bc I knew a Leah in school and that would've felt uncomfortable using the same name!

Marigold - Describe your OC in three words or less

Theo: Sweet, anxious, protective

Lea: Protective, loving, musical
