Today I went to a cash mob for Gem Spa home of New York’s best egg cream. It is struggling to stay in business, so some hipsters developed a rad campaign to save it. Citi Bank allegedly wanted the location, so they made it into a fake “Schiti Bank.” The signs featured East Village icons: Patti Smith, Robert Mapplethorpe, Allen Ginsberg, Jack Jerouac, and the New York Dolls. We bought a ton of stuff. Support Gem Spa. Fight gentrification. Gentrification sucks.
