i just had a idea for bem holy shit okay okay so
i already knew she was going to be a hybrid in terms of species and i knew that she was part spirit already but i decided that part drago would be cool too so there's that
but instead of having her embody physical traits of both species at once, she presents as a pure water spirit. this is because dragos are looked down upon and hunted in some places because they can shapeshift into dragons and the people who hate nymphs for shapeshifting and trickery also hate dragos for the same reason. so when she was little, her parents arranged for her growing horns and fangs to be removed. she lived under very strict rules, as her family is a highly respected part of the council. therefore she was required to wear a headband at all times to hide her horn scars and wears two false teeth in place of her fangs. the scars on her face and upper body were her parent's attempts to get rid of her drago markings with the aid of magical weapons. in the end, none of them worked and she had to use concealer for that.
however, because she was suppressing a part of herself, she still developed clot disease eventually. (i explained the disease in the comments of a post were were talking on today!)
as she was only forced to suppress her physical traits that are found in dragos, and not her spirit traits or her water element itself, two thirds of her abilities were intact, meaning that she had more control over herself even under the influence of the disease, which is quite uncommon, as most people who suffer from clot have suppressed half or more of their abelites, whilst bem only suppressed one third.
as bem grew up, her spirit wings started to deteriorate little by little as clot disease developed in her blood. eventually, her water medium inverted as a result of such long-term suppression, and her dragon traits grew back, her breaking spirit wings falling off to make way for dragon wings. when a medium inverts, it changes to it's direct opposite medium, and usually the opposite medium is harder to control, as bem's body, for example, was conditioned to sustain a water medium, not the fire medium that later replaced it,
this is bem whilst she was passing as a water spirit (just realised that symbolistically this is like her passing as a gender she doesnt identify as before coming out ndfjbf)
and this is bem after her medium is inverted (cue quirky shirt and lizard arc) she probably looses her hand because her body isnt used to the hot temperature of her blood and her hand ends up burning really badly? or something fdnjfkd
oooh!! i didnt see those comments but i remember you talking about the medium inversion before! it happened to someone else too, didnt it? or am i thinking of the character that uses ink to control their abiltiies bc they have 3 and theyre really powerful?
