Three Game Disappointment for Choo and Veeran in London
Leanne Choo and Renuga Veeran's World Championships campaign is over after going down in 3 games at Wembley Arena today. The girls went down to Russian 10th seeds Vislova/Sorokina 22-20 11-21 5-21
The Aussie girls jumped out the blocks to grab and early lead before the Russians managed to claw their way back to have a slender lead towards the end of the first game, however after saving two set points it was Choo and Veeran that grabbed the opener 22-20
The loss of the first set seemed to shock the Russians into form as they came out firing and dominated the second game to level the match up at one game apiece with a 21-11 win.
In the third game Vislova/Sorokina further asserted their dominance and showed why they are the top ranked European pair in the world, destroying Choo and Veeran 21-5 the take the match
Aussies Progress at World Champs
It was two from two for Australia on the opening day of the 2011 Yonex BWF World Championships in London overnight, with both the Men's Doubles pairing of Smith/Warfe and Women's Doubles pairing Choo/Veeran racking up first round wins.
Leanne Choo and Renuga Veeran cruised through their opening match in style against Annys and Corvilain of Belgium. The Aussies jumped out to a commanding lead in the opening game to be ahead 11-2 at the break and they were never challenged, eventually winning 21-6 21-9.
Australia's top ranked men's doubles pair of Smith and Warfe were up against Scottish youngsters Campbell and Gilmour in their opening round match. While the Aussies did not have the match all their own way, they managed to keep their noses in front before pulling away towards the end if each set.
Smith and Warfe will now go on to face 2011 Yonex Australian Open Grand Prix Gold winners and 14th seeds Endo and Hayakawa from Japan on Tuesday (7.40pm GMT) while Choo and Veeran have a rest day before taking on 11th seeds Vislova and Sorokina of Russia on Wednesday.
