I need more abt the fact Macao clearly took on a bit of a fatherly friend sort of role for Cana while she grew up at the guild, which naturally developed into friendship and seeing her as an adult he looks out for but can also trust to look out for herself. Like I've been watching fairy tail season one and in a lot of the flash backs it's Macao (and Wakaba) looking out for Cana and checking on her. I think way down the line it's revealed it was Macao and/or Wakaba who suggest she pick up card magic, and then they watched her grow into s-class material from that.

Like don't get me wrong I enjoy the Cana Gildarts daughter father dynamic and then navigating that, but how does Macao fit in once she finally tells Gildarts who she is? They clearly still care about each other, we see them still around one another. But how did that look? How was the reunion after the 7 year gap? What did they talk about?
