As I browse the d&d tag I keep seeing post by people looking to learn but unsure where to start- or unable to find a table to play at.
I'm working on putting together an 'intro' discord server for new players to learn the basics and test out different classes without committing to a whole oneshot/campaign.
There will be a mix of 'live' sessions and 'play by post' sessions. I've found text based to be great for those with social anxiety and those who have limited time.
The details are still coming together, but I'm hoping to make a detailed post by the end of this month.
Highlights:
Two ways to play and learn:
Text based sessions (for those with social anxiety, limited time, or who prefer pbp)
Live voice sessions (short 1-3 hours each)
Short quests to teach various aspects of the game
Make your own character(s) or choose from premade
Optional solo 'training grounds' before joining with other players
No commitment to a campaign or a character
While there is a bit of an overarching story, this will not be a traditional campaign. It will feel more like a tutorial level in a video game-- short modules that you can replay with different characters to test their abilities. There will be longer one-shots to run once you feel comfortable. My goal with this is to give players the basics they need to feel confident joining a full campaign.
