Aho(あほ, アホ, 阿呆) - A phrase meaning idiot, dummy, dumbass. It’s in the Kansai dialect of the Japanese language.
Baka(馬鹿, ばか, or バカ) - The word for idiot, fool, dummy. More commonly used in anime than aho.
Chibi(ちび or チビ) - Slang word in Japanese for small/short. Usually used for a person, but it is also used when describing an object or animal as being cute.
Doujinshi/Dōjinshi(同人誌) - Fan-made published works. (Manga, magazines,Livejournal)
Ecchi/Etchi(エッチ) - A subgenre in Japanese that contains sexual themes without being explicit.
Fan-service - Scenes that contain cleavage and panty shots. Or anything to please the viewer/reader.
Harem/Haremu/Haremumono(ハーレム or ハーレムもの) - Subgenre in anime or manga where the protagonist is surrounded by men or woman.
Hentai(変態 or へんたい) - The literal translation is perverted. But in anime/manga it’s a subgenre that contains sexual explicit scenes.
Itai(痛い) - It means Ouch. When used in a sentence it means something hurts, is painful, or is sore.
Josei(女性漫画) - The word for woman or female. It’s found in subgenres. Usually anime with this genre indicate that the story will be more of a realistic romance or will contain older woman.
Kawaii(かわいい) - the word for cute, adorable, or lovable.
Lolita/Rorita Fasshon(ロリータ・ファッション) - a sexual precocious little girl, but in the Japanese culture it’s a subgenre of FASHION. The style is of Victorian and Edwardian clothing.
Otaku(おたく or オタク) In the western culture it means a person that’s obsessed with anime, manga, or Japanese video games. (A Natasha <3)
Shoujo/Shōjo(少女) - Japanese word for girl. It’s also a genre. It means younger girl, or intends to be directed at girls.
Shounen(少年) - It means boy or youth. It’s also a subgenre of anime that’s directed towards boys.
Tsundere(ツンデレ) - A character that initially starts off being cold and mean to another before revealing their soft, caring side over time.
Weeaboo - Not to be confused with otaku. Its derogatory term used to describe someone that’s obsessed with Japanese culture. ANYTHING JAPANESE.
Yaoi(やおい) Slang word for boys love. It’s also an acronym for Yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi. Meaning no climax, no point, no meaning.
Yuri - Slang word for a relationship between two woman.
