In the guise of readiness of the learner, are we limiting access to content? For example, textbooks present reductionistic views of society by eliminating alternative narratives. I..e, there is only the cultural practices of the majority group (Hindu harvest festivals) - but not the minority (Islamic, Christian, Buddhist etc.) traditions. Maybe students can learn about the complex world around us - simplification can still remain true to the essence.
