I'm very excited to participate in my first Language Jam! Since this is the year of indigenous languages, that is the theme for this round. My assigned language is Manx, and I'm quite happy with it. I've dabbled a bit with Welsh, and the Say Something In... website is a wonderful resource to work with.
For those who don't know, Manx is the language native to the Isle of Man, an island between Britain and Ireland.
Manx is a Celtic language, of the Gaelic branch. It is closely related to Irish and Scottish Gaelic, and distantly related to Breton, Cornish and Welsh.
Although the last native speaker died in 1974, the language never fully fell out of use and it is now taught in all of the island's primary and secondary schools. Thanks to language revival efforts, there are an estimated 1,800 people who speak Manx as a second language.
