Yaaayyy a Setswana langblr! What resources are you using to learn? I dabbled in it a bit and would like to learn it more at some point, but I found it difficult to find resources and media to engage with.
Hi, nice to meet you! I'm just starting to get back into learning Setswana after a break so I hope this langblr doesn't disappoint 😁
Unfortunately my main resources are just random stuff I happen to have access to right now. At the moment I'm using my uni study guides to relearn some of the grammar (I had Setswana as an extra subject for a while). For dictionaries I'm using a secondhand copy of Reader's Digest's South African Multi-Language Dictionary and Phrase Book, and PharosOnline's South African Multilingual Dictionary (which needs a subscription).
Some other resources:
Quizlet has a lot of Setswana vocab study sets (here's a folder with some of the ones I found). I sometimes use it to make my own study sets as wel.
Oxford used to have a nice Setswana/English online dictionary, but they took it down last year. Now I occasionally use Glosbe to translate words. The translations aren’t always great but it shows a lot of examples, which is helpful.
Memrise has some Setswana courses if you access it through a browser, but I haven't really looked into that yet
Media
nalibali.org has children's stories you can read and listen to in multiple South African languages, including Setswana.
Some Setswana podcasts
These are my own playlists on Youtube and Spotify
